Recently I hung some hummingbird feeders on my back porch, and it wasn’t long before the nifty little birds started draining them of the sugar water that I had placed inside of them. I live on a rural farm located far out in the country and cannot understand how in the world these tiny birds found the two feeders that I placed, but much to our delight one showed up on the very first day. And soon multitudes of the beautiful little birds were swarming the feeders with multiple visits.
God decided that He would feed these tiny birds by equipping them to drain flowers of their nectar, thus He provided them with their long beaks. They hover and their wings beat so fast that one cannot even see them as they work from flower to flower. Hummingbirds, like butterflies, are integral to cross pollination of flowering crops. There are brightly colored artificial flowers attached to the feeders and it is the flowers that attract them. It is ingenious to say the least.
So as is often customary I began to daydream about God deciding to create them. I pictured Him in my mind, and He was in His shop carefully designing this creature for the purpose that only He could figure out and when His masterpiece was finished, He smiled and released them to fly into our lives. Birds from paradise is what I call them. They were created by almighty God in paradise for us to enjoy.
I stand in awe of God’s creation. He has thought things through and through. The result of all His planning goes far beyond the design of the hummingbird and is present in all of creation. The axis and rotation of the earth is a prime example. I have read if it was only slightly different we would burn up from the sun or freeze when it spins. The human body is another mystery and testament to His prowess. Just look at one of the anatomy charts in your doctor’s office if you need confirmation. The there is the vast universe. Yes my friends God created everything so that our environment would be perfect.
Reflect on this today and just imagine being face to face with God the Father, and His Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. What an experience that will be. The hair stands up on my neck when I think about it…Do you ever think about God as our creator? If not, I encourage you to do so; not only is it fun and enlightening, importantly it helps build your faith. There should be no doubt about whether or not God exists. Creation is just too perfect!
Psalm 19:1
A psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard.
