So, a close relative of mine OD’d last night. He is in critical condition, and I don’t know if he will make it or not. He has been a heroin addict for some time and I’m sure he is taking fentanyl and anything else he can get his hands on.

He has gone from being sober to clean and back so many times I cannot even remember them all. It is a revolving door. I told another relative last night that this young man will not get clean and stay clean until he makes up his mind to do so. Satan uses every tool in the book to prevent that from occurring. It is not just the drugs. Addicts can get clean, but then something will happen, lose their job, lose their girlfriend, someone close will die, get around other users and be tempted, or any host of ordinary trials we all go through.

When there is a trail or tribulation the difference between normal folks and addicts is addicts run towards drugs to get their relief and they should be running away from drugs to the Lord. Personally, I have never seen anyone successfully kick drugs without having a religious conversion. When someone makes progress in getting relief, Satan intensifies his efforts to draw addicts back into the quagmire in which they live using every kind of drug available.

Like many drugs of abuse, heroin has specific actions in the brain and body that cause people to become addicted. It doesn’t matter whether the individual is a high-powered CEO, a famous actor, someone down on their luck, or a person who fell in with the wrong crowd; heroin use, abuse, and addiction can affect anyone, and it has long-lasting repercussions on the people and communities affected by addiction.

The relapse rate for all substance abuse disorders ranges from 40 to 60%, but the rate for heroin specifically is as high as 90%, or even greater. What should one do? Get them in church some how – some way. Never give up hope no matter how bleak the situation might appear. I can speak from experience that it can be done so believe and have faith. Never stop praying.

Luke 1:37
“For nothing will be impossible with God.”

Have a great weekend and go to church this Sunday!
