I noticed after the impeachment ruling that Senate majority leader, Mitch McConnell and minority leader Chuck Schumer thanked all of the pages, the capitol police, the Chief Justice and so on for their contributions during the impeachment trial.
It was civil and friendly and amazingly smiles actually did abound. It was such a profound change from the bitterness and acrimony that has occurred within Congress for so long. It actually made me feel good and seemed to provide hope that perhaps now that it was over, we could see them work together side by side.
I guess that was just wishful thinking on my part because the headlines this morning all point towards the Democrats beginning yet another impeachment hearing and subpoenaing witnesses in New York and beginning this entire sordid process yet again.
It is a never-ending anti-Trump exercise in insanity. The late psychiatrist and news commenter Charles Krauthammer hit the nail on the head when he coined it Trump derangement syndrome. All the while jobs soar and the economy booms. It amazes me that nearly half the people in the United States purportedly support the witch hunters. What’s up with that?
I personally do not know one person, not one, that supports the Democrats. I suppose I live in a bubble. I don’t think Trump is a saint, but I do think he has done more for our country than anyone in my lifetime and that includes my beloved Ronald Reagan. He certainly has done more for religious liberty, the rights of the unborn, and other initiatives to protect freedom of religion.
He said at the National Prayer Breakfast that he was having a hard time forgiving those who have attacked him, his family, and his presidency since before he even took office, but he is trying. It is one of the most difficult things in the world to forgive our enemies, but he is trying. He has surrounded himself with spiritual advisors many of whom I personally know, and I believe they are making headway in steering him towards a mature walk with God, but like the rest of us he is a work in progress.
As for me and my family, we pray for him daily and I have no doubt that millions of others do as well. Prayer is powerful and we must never stop. The Good News: God listens to everyone’s prayers. He does not put one’s request over another; we are all created equal in His eyes. “Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. Listen to David’s prayer and use it as a model.
Psalm 3
Lord, how many are my foes!
How many rise up against me!
Many are saying of me,
“God will not deliver him.”
But you, Lord, are a shield around me,
my glory, the One who lifts my head high.
I call out to the Lord,
and he answers me from his holy mountain.
I lie down and sleep;
I wake again, because the Lord sustains me.
I will not fear though tens of thousands
assail me on every side.
Arise, Lord!
Deliver me, my God!
Strike all my enemies on the jaw;
break the teeth of the wicked.
From the Lord comes deliverance.
May your blessing be on your people.
Have a great weekend and go to church this Sunday!
