I lived on beautiful Honey Lake for many years. The 80-acre lake is spring fed and thus is always pure and clear. There are several other ponds on the property that are not spring fed and when it doesn’t rain for a long period of time these ponds get stagnant and filled with algae. My favorite fishing pond had a 15 inch well adjacent to it and the pure water pumped from the well into the pond was used to refresh it during those tough dry spells. Likewise, I pumped water into a few of the other ponds on the property during long droughts to keep them fresh and vibrant.

Some of the ponds were located far from electricity and I could not get water to them. Without rain or fresh water being pumped into them they would become stagnant and begin to dry up. A stagnant pond is pretty much a waste. Deer and other wildlife will not drink from it and if it persists the fish that live in it will die off from a lack of oxygen. It isn’t even pretty to look at with its slimy, stringy, green film on it.

Did you ever stop to think how our lives are the same? Famed intellectual former atheist turned Christ follower C.S. Lewis wrote about our lives as Christians: ” . . . Daily prayers and religious reading and churchgoing are necessary parts of the Christian life. We have to be continually reminded of what we believe. Neither this belief nor any other will automatically remain alive in the mind. It must be fed.”

When I read this, I thought of humanity as compared to a pond. Continually feed a pond with fresh pure water and it thrives. When you cut off the fresh water supply it dies and dries up. Do you feel refreshed and pure, or are you feeling a little like slimy green algae has taken over your life? If it is the latter, it’s time to get your nose in a Bible and make your way to s Spirit filled church and fill yourself with the living water of the Holy Spirit. It is pure and holy and will pick you right back up to the point of living a Spirit filled joyous life. I love to study and read the Bible daily. I enjoy going to Christian small groups, church and other events where my brothers and sisters in Christ may gather to worship. It’s like drinking a glass of ice-cold water on a hot day. Simply Deeee-licious

John 4:10

“If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water”
