Abraham Lincoln used a verse quoted in three of the Gospels, (Matthew, Mark, and Luke), to be the centerpiece of his speech addressing the Republican convention. “A house divided against itself cannot stand.” I believe this government cannot endure, permanently half slave and half free. I do not expect the Union to be dissolved — I do not expect the house to fall — but I do expect it will cease to be divided. It will become all one thing or all the other.”

Lincoln of course was talking about the singular issue of either the entire nation adopting slavery or abolition. Today there are many more issues that deeply divide our country. The issue(s) however, don’t seem to be the problem with the political parties of today. In fact there seems to be general agreement within Republican ranks among all of the candidates as to what needs to be done to fix problems within our ailing country. It is however the lack of unity that is killing our country. The Republican PARTY seems to be a misnomer and it seems more like bands of warring factions than a unified team out to defeat the Democrats. In fact they are planning strategies to destroy each other better than our generals out to destroy ISIS seem to be capable of planning.

The Democrats are not as divided as Republicans but in similar straits. They have commonality in moving to the far left, intent upon increasing big government and destroying capitalism, as well as changing the culture in America to do away with moral taboos of practically any persuasion and to denigrate God and those who worship Him at every opportunity. However much they agree with their common goals, nonetheless each camp is trying to inflict fatal wounds on their opponent.

Soon enough the two parties will square off and after an election by our similarly polarized society a winner/loser will be declared.

I am haunted by Abe’s words: “I do not expect the Union to be dissolved — I do not expect the house to fall — but I do expect it will cease to be divided. It will become all one thing or all the other.”

I believe this to be true and the coming election will go a long way in either moving the country back towards the center, or we will become a socialist country answering to big government in every facet of our lives. Morality will continue to deteriorate and persecution of those who adhere to the Bible and worship God as Christians will increase.

It is estimated that there are 90 million believers in the United States. If they would unite and vote in a block it would be a simple matter to restore some sanity to this country. But the church is not united either. In fact we are far from it with some 43,000 denominations all worshipping the same God, but pulling in different directions. The Jesus Alliance is trying to bring them together. (LOL I sometimes think that I must be insane to work so hard on this seemingly impossible task, but I believe the Bible when it states that: With God nothing is impossible.

After the great flood God separated the nations and gave them different languages stating that if they were united there is nothing that they could not accomplish. Their hearts were intent on evil and He stopped them dead in their tracks. After Jesus established the church He prayed that believers would be united. It seems almost like a paradox. Did you ever wonder why He prayed so fervently about this and at such a critical time, (right before He was going to be crucified)?

Because He knows that by uniting together the church CAN accomplish anything and many will come to know Jesus Christ as a result.

Divided our house will fall and dark forces will take over. United in Jesus we will stand and the light of the Lord will shine and bless us.

Vote!

John 17:20

“I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me . . .
