The media covered the Baltimore riots story from every angle; however the biggest case to hit the Supreme Court in its history basically was ignored. I’m talking about the issue of same sex marriage. If it passes, it will mean that the Supreme Court will have declared that same sex marriage is a “civil right” and thus religious entities will have to perform same sex wedding ceremonies against their religious beliefs and a plethora of other requirements or go to jail.
Many religious leaders have vowed to go to jail before succumbing to this law. Religious beliefs that have remained the same for 5000 years will be thrown out and replaced, just as they were with Roe vs. Wade and they say enough is enough!
The statement that they issued was simple: “We will not obey.”
According to Todd Starnes that is the blunt warning that a group of prominent religious leaders is sending to the Supreme Court of the United States as they consider same-sex marriage. We respectfully warn the Supreme Court not to cross that line,” read a document titled, Pledge in Solidarity to Defend Marriage http://defendmarriage.org/pledge-in-solidarity-to-defend-marriage
There is no ambiguity; they state: “We stand united together in defense of marriage. Make no mistake about our resolve. While there are many things we can endure, redefining marriage is so fundamental to the natural order and the common good that this is the line we must draw and one we cannot, and will not cross.”
The signees are a who’s who of religious leaders including the likes of former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum, National Religious Broadcasters president Jerry Johnson, Pastor John Hagee, and Franklin Graham, president and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan’s Purse.
The pledge was co-drafted by Deacon Keith Fournier, a Catholic deacon, and Mat Staver, the founder of Liberty Counsel. Also involved in the document were Rick Scarborough, the president of Vision America Action and James Dobson, the founder of Family Talk Radio.
My friend Matt Staver said: “You are essentially saying that boys and girls don’t need moms and dads – that moms and dads are irrelevant,” Gender becomes pointless when government adopts same-sex marriage. It creates a genderless relationship out of a very gender-specific relationship. It says that it doesn’t matter and that two moms or two dads are absolutely equivalent to a mom and a dad.”
Yeah right . . . That is ridiculous!
As for me I don’t give a hoot about couples that want to sin in their own bedroom either in adultery or homosexuality. I hate sin of all types, but I’m no judge of sinners and have sinned more than anyone I know.
Just don’t make me a part of someone else’s sin. This violates my religious beliefs and if it becomes law, school books will be changed to legitimize it and it will affect my grandkids too in essentially telling them their religious beliefs are wrong. More lawsuits will be launched by the LGBT and more religious freedom will be lost.
According to the CDC less than two per cent of society engages in homosexuality and we should not change law that has withstood millennia to accommodate their lust. If states want to allow them to have their civil ceremonies then allow that, but don’t punish millions of Christians by forcing them to choose between their religious beliefs and secular law by changing the constitution by interpretation.
Societal mores that transcend biblical law require us to make tough decisions. Do we obey God or society? That is the question. As for me I choose to follow God. I will march in civil disobedience as Martin Luther King Jr. did if it passes. In the meantime – PRAY!
Gal. 1; 10
Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.
