Is anyone or anything inspiring to you? The dictionary defines inspire as, stimulation of the mind or emotion to a high level of activity or feeling. I sometimes think that we become so wrapped-up in our day-to-day grind that we seldom become inspired by anything. I read not long ago about a blind person who successfully climbed Mount Everest. What an accomplishment! It is pretty incredible and very inspiring. I’m not just talking about this event being inspirational to the blind and others who are handicapped, but to all of us. Imagine setting a goal that “high”, working very hard and training for years, risking everything and then by golly pulling it off. What a feeling it must have been for this man to stand at the summit of Mt. Everest, listening to the wind whistling by his ears and realizing that all of his hard work, planning and effort had paid off and his “lofty” goal had been achieved.
I have set goals and achieved them, albeit nothing as stunning as scaling Mt. Everest, but I have realized the satisfaction of achieving a worthy goal or two. I can tell you that there is nothing like that feeling. The bigger the accomplishment, the better the feeling. I have often said that life is not a dress rehearsal. This is the one shot we have at this old world, so we need to make the most of it.
I hope that you are inspired by this little story to renew your efforts to define worthy goals and go after them. There is no better time than now to begin planning your goals for next year. Why let the mundane rule your life? Get out of the rut and onto the highway.
Don’t have any worthy goals? Pray about what God would have you do with the rest of your days. I am sure that the two of you can figure something out.
