The year is rapidly coming to an end. I always take the holiday period to put my goals for the upcoming year in writing and also to settle any outstanding business. While thinking about this, I thought about what God says about forgiving one another. Actually the Bible teaches that we should not let the sun go down without resolving a difference with each other and indeed not to let the sun even go down on our anger. It is too late for that, but not too late to not let another year pass without making an effort.

All we can do is try, and the other party must both be receptive to it and agree to a reconcilement, or they will continue on as before, but at least you will have made the effort. If they reject your offer of peace, then put it out of your mind and move on. I have a list of those who are on the “out” with me. My plan is to make an attempt before year’s end to reconcile differences anywhere possible. Where necessary I will apologize for my misbehavior. If they are the offending party, I will make it easy for them to apologize and accept it, if it is forthcoming. There are not that many people on the list this year, so it shouldn’t’t take long, but honestly I do not look forward to it.

Next year I hope to have peace with everyone. If issues develop, I’ll take God’s wise advice and try to settle the matter before the sun goes down. How about you? Got anyone that you are not speaking to right now? Swallow your pride and make an attempt. Eat a little crow, it does not taste that bad. God wants you to give it a shot. Guess who wants you to leave things the same for next year?
