Many things seem to naturally appear together. You rarely see one without the other. It seems odd that “bad” and “good” are in that situation. If one watches the coverage of the disaster caused by Hurricane Katrina this phenomenon is quite obvious. Death, destruction, looting, and misery exist side by side with heroic good hearted people risking their lives and pouring their hearts out to assist their fellow human beings.

Good and evil exist side by side in this old world. Jesus described it in one parable whereby a farmer’s enemy had sowed some tares, (weeds), within his wheat crop. The farmer instructed his workers to allow them to grow up together and at the time of harvest, the tares were separated from the wheat and bundled up and burned. Jesus stated that so it will be with all of mankind at the end of the age. The good will be separated from the bad at that point…for eternity. Until then though we are faced with living side by side with the bad and the good.

If it were not for the bad, I doubt we could appreciate the good. There is now an opportunity for us to exhibit the good and offset the bad. We all have a choice as to whether we can open our hearts and wallets to relief agencies who are trying to assist the desperate people who are suffering terribly from this natural disaster. We can ignore their plight and concentrate on ourselves, or we can give some of that which God has so richly blessed us to those who are in real jeopardy and need.
I want to be on the side of good, and my sacrificial gift will go to the Salvation Army Disaster Relief fund. How about you? Do you have a favorite charity? Are you prepared to do some much-needed good?

Before you answer that question for yourself, consider that what we “live” is what we believe! All the rest is just religious talk…

Proverbs 3:27

Do not withhold good from

those to whom it is due

when it is in the power of your

hand to do so.

Do not say to your neighbor,

“Go and come back,

and tomorrow I will give it,”

when you have it with you.
