Thanks to my many friends who have wished me happy birthday this morning (and yesterday a happy Thanksgiving.) I actually slept in this morning, something really rare for me. Getting up at 7:45 as I did today is as rare as an albino Marlin. (I’ve never seen one.) I was trying to figure out why I slept so long and decided that God just wanted me to relax; (it couldn’t be that I’m getting old eh?)
Riiight . . .
In heaven there will be no time. I wonder how that will be? How will we pass the time? Oops there I go again talking of time. Here in the Keys no one seems to be in a hurry and time is not much of a factor. I wonder if that is why locals claim they live in paradise. A friend told me that the construction guys who worked on his new home went fishing when the weather was nice and sunny but said it was too wet to work when it rained. Needless to say t it took years to construct his home. Oddly he just accepted it and didn’t rant or rave.
I think maybe we will have fishing in heaven. Jesus loved fishermen and eating fish. I wouldn’t mind being on the fishing crew. For sure I don’t think that we will be sitting around in heaven. The Universe is constantly expanding and no telling what adventures God has occurring on distant planets and solar systems. I believe we serve an active God and I do believe He will delegate responsibilities to those who loved Him in this life. Adam and Eve tended to the Garden of Eden and named and cared for all of the flora and fauna in their piece of paradise and I believe we will have responsibilities too. I would love to have a galaxy or two to explore and look after for Him. Imagine the sunrises and sunsets there . . .
I know some retired folks that revel in being retired and doing absolutely nothing, in fact, they boast about it. Sounds more like being in a boring form of hell to me. Retirement for me simply meant switching gears to do the things I love instead of the things I had to do to provide for my family and ensure that after I see my last sunset, they will be a whole lot wiser and more financially secure than I ever was.
But I realize that heaven for me will likely not be the same a heaven for others. Maybe God will set aside an area where those who enjoy their lazy days can sleep on floating beds and float around on clouds for eternity to complement those over-achievers who want to see and do everything available. It’s nice to dream about such things and forget the realities of our current situation. We cannot even imagine what it will be like to roam the streets of gold in heaven or what great fun filled adventures ahead that God has in store for us. Come quickly dear Lord – Come quickly!
1 Corinthians 2:9
But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”
Have a great weekend and go to church this Sunday!
