Yesterday I was going through my Bible which is filled with notes and scribblings and I noticed a little note I had written, Stop trying to calm the storms in life and instead calm myself.
It was just a small note scribbled in my Bible, but it was profound. Jesus had the key to this as he has keys in many things in this life. There are numerous verses whereby Jesus calms the raging storms of life. Over and again, He warns of not being swept away by the storms of this old world.
I was wondering aloud to my wife yesterday why the people did not believe in Jesus being the Son of God. Even His own disciples did not believe. They had witnessed miracles and sat at His feet and reveled at His wisdom not to mention watching first-hand at His fulfilling all the prophecies, but yet still no one would listen. He had no one who believed in him at the time of His death.
Three days after He died He arose and appeared to His disciples, and they realized whom they had betrayed. This was the Jesus who can stop the storms from raging just by speaking to them and at last they recognized Him, and they believed.
I would like to say I would have held the line, but honestly I figure I would have been hiding too. I like to think Jesus mysteriously saw their weakness and with a heart full of love said, Follow me, you will have storms in this current life but we shall overcome them one by one – together.
Isaiah 42:6
God is with you in this storm, and he will protect you as he takes hold of your hand. Cry out to him and trust that he will never take his eye off you.
