It’s stormy looking today here in Mississippi and I always wonder if a tornado isn’t out there somewhere. Storms can be a gift of God if an area needs rain. It can be a curse if rain has eluded the area for a while and a drought has ensued. Most of us want the weather to be perfect all the time. The garden of Eden comes to mind with its daily soaking by mist. So why do you think the Lord changes it up?
Hmmm . . . If He sends a tornado or hurricane it would seem that He could be disciplining sinners in their path. Maybe this is why Haiti with their voodoo and witchcraft gets slammed by hurricanes so often and who can forget Katrina hitting New Orleans with its 24 drinking of alcohol, homosexual behavior, voodoo and witchcraft. Perhaps it dates all the way back to the original sin that occurred and all of mankind is being punished for their wicked – wicked ways.
Or maybe storms are not punishing anyone, and they just naturally occur according to how God set things up. It will be fascinating to hear straight from God the answers to these questions especially to those who lost their lives in a vicious storm and made it into heaven. Knowing God After studying His word the Bible for half a century, I suspect God has several things He wants to accomplish through allowing storms to savage the country. I do believe that sometimes He is punishing different parts of the country and other times He is letting us see His vast power to awaken us and make us realize that time on this earth is but a vapor and we should put our hopes and dreams in His capable hands.
I have installed a tornado shelter in my home just in case. I hope we never have to use it, but God gave me some common sense and since I live in the heart of tornado alley I want to be prudent about one tearing through Bentonia. We always left the Florida Keys when a tropical storm was escalating and headed our way when we lived there. Those who remained were terrified and they no longer were bragging about “staying and riding it out”. Seeing it snap trees and even tear homes to pieces makes one wonder why they were not safely in Atlanta or somewhere.
Storms can be refreshing, or they can be a nightmare. No matter how much I prepare I can not escape their wrath. My best insurance policy is God Himself. If I were to perish in a storm I know I would instantly be with the Lord. That is a comforting thought is it not? Build your house on the solid rock of Jesus. Do it today before it is too late.
Matthew 7:24
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
