We’ve all heard the expression that someone is scared of his own shadow. The Bible teaches that when a person dwells in the shelter of the Most High, they will abide in the shadow of the Almighty and thus, they will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day Psalm 91:1.
This is possible because such a person has come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. “God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. By this love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment because as he is, so also are we in this world. There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.” 1 John 4:16- Most of us are familiar with, Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I shall fear no evil. God doesn’t desire for us to fear anything, much less a shadow. It is not even logical. A shadow remains behind us as we head for the light. He is telling us to cast out fear and to look towards Him.
I might note that this verse pertains solely to Christians, those who made a conscious decision of trusting our God to protect us. Non-believers who have rejected Jesus have plenty to fear in the judgement. There one must stand alone and take full responsibility for every sin you ever committed by yourself. Christians will have Jesus standing next to them advocating that He took the punishment for that sin. Not a pleasant thought.
Psalm 34:4
I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed.”
Have a great weekend and go to church this Sunday!
