Have you ever had a strong feeling to avoid doing something that could harm you. You might be considering making friends with someone that does not meet your moral standards but otherwise is cool to hang out with; however, intuition tells you that it would be wrong.  The word intuition can be defined as, ” the ability to understand something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning”. Where does it come from? I believe that intuition comes from the Holy Spirit. If somehow we instantly know that something is wrong about a situation without thinking it through, how else can it be explained? So, if you “smell a rat” when presented with what appears to be a good opportunity, be extra careful.

The Holy Spirit has put a hedge of protection around Christ followers. We saw this in II Kings chapter 6 when Elisha opened the eyes of his servant, and he was able to see chariots of fire circling Elisha to protect him.  We cannot see the Holy Spirit but regardless of actually seeing Him, it is through our faith alone that we believe He is there protecting us. Seeing is not believing, but I can feel the Holy Spirit like a rip tide that I cannot see but I surely can feel the “pull”. I know He plays a central role in guiding me towards the good and wholesome things in life. I have no doubt that He was right there with me during my numerous brushes with death and I thank Him every day for all the miraculous recoveries.

Jesus told the disciples that the Holy Spirit would come but they had to wait until the Day of Pentecost before He appeared. It occurred a short period of time after the resurrection and the Holy Spirit appeared as  “tongues of fire” who swept through the crowd and even though they came from different nations everyone could understand each other’s language. That is what sealed the deal and followers of Christ were “born again”.

It has been my experience that the Holy Spirit has largely been ignored by many churches and pastor’s sermons. God, however, is comprised of three separate parts God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. I have learned to love them all equally and though I don’t understand how it works I have faith it is a perfect combination.  As I decided what to write about this morning I thought of the Holy Spirit and His contributions to my life. I have no doubt that He exists, and I thank God for Him. I have had Him speak to me through intuition, but I just didn’t put it together that it came from Him and that the two were synonymous. If you have a bad feeling about something chances are it is God warning you not to do it. He does it through the Holy Spirit. If you do it anyway it is He that is also your conscience.

Acts 2:1
When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them . . .
