It is amazing to me how diamonds and gold are valued. They are simply rocks albeit they are very difficult to find. There have been other things of high value in the world and they have one thing in common, there is a limited supply and thus a high price. I’m told that diamond dealers and gold dealers keep prices low by withholding inventory. Prices skyrocket when they do because of their “supposed” scarcity.

The Bible talks of gold and precious stones. In fact Gold was given to Mary at Jesus’s birth. It is interesting to me to see that myrh was another item that was given to her which was scarce which made it very expensive.

I’ve watched grown men mining for gold in Alaska and they come up with a jar of gold flakes and its worth a small fortune and they whoop and holler and head for the nearest bar. I suppose scarcity is the key to value.

It is interesting to read the Bible and see what God thinks about diamonds and gold. He values faith more than any material object. It is materialism  at its finest. What  are people thinking? We can load up on diamonds and gold and it is worthless when we die. One thing about it we all shall die one day and we must give an account of what we did for the Lord. Gulp! Better to plan ahead.

With that said one might say, I cannot use my diamonds and gold to buy a ticket to enter heaven and everlasting life so what good are they. The description I have heard is that heaven is filled with precious stones and the streets are made of gold. Personally I prefer to wait my turn and enter heaven when the time is right. Then I will enjoy it to the hilt. Imagine walking down those streets of gold on your way to seeing Jesus who will be adorned in jewels of every description!

Proverbs 16:16
How much better to get wisdom than gold,
to get insight rather than silver!

Have a great weekend and go to church this Sunday!
