And on the 3rd day the entire world was changed. Death was defeated on an old rugged cross by none other than Jesus. He revealed to the world He was the son of God and He had given His life so we might have it thereby defeating death once and for all.

Easter Sunday is this special time of year in which we celebrate this gift. Unfortunately, not everyone feels this way. Case in point, I was talking to a friend of mine via cell phone yesterday about a fishing tournament in the keys he wanted me to fish with him in. I of course am still undergoing therapy and had to decline, but then he told me the tournament start day was Easter Sunday.

I was disgusted to hear this and replied that was the holiest day of the year and it should be reserved for things that are holy. Of all the days they could fish why would they set it up to begin on this holy day. He had just told me that if the weather was rough and the sea was too big, he would stay home and EAT, because there would be plenty of good food and some good meals prepared on that day. He was just being honest and telling me how he felt about Easter.

Okay that was too much. I told him he would end up in hell with that kind of thinking. He then asked me if I thought he would go to hell, and I candidly told him that listening to him and watching him throw away his life drinking beer and lusting after bikinis indicated that he would end up in hell. This is a good guy and I believe that he thinks that being good will suffice in getting him through those pearly gates. I responded, “The Bible says that the only way to get into heaven is to believe that Jesus died on that cross and took my sins and your sins upon Himself”. It has to go through Jesus there is no other way! I told him that I was not God and could not look at his heart and tell him if he would go to hell but his outward behavior is indicative of his belief system.

There was dead silence on the other end as he considered what I had told him.

As you prepare for Easter think about this. Don’t call and schedule a golf outing or similar course of action on this holy day. Make plans today to spend the day in worship. You will not regret it.

1 Cor. 15:3
Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day …by the grace of God …
