Well, it is officially a new year. What will it bring? My Bible study partner wrote and said the following: ‘My wife and I spent some time yesterday talking about the next year, and things we hope to accomplish – Spent time talking about my discernment . . . I welcome your prayers . . . since I’m a little hardheaded (like you) I need a smack around the head to give me direction . . .”

I have been smacking him upside his head for literally years trying to get him to serve the Lord in some capacity. To date he has steadfastly refused, always with the excuse he doesn’t know the nature of what his “calling” should be.

Now the guy does have some modicum of intelligence, is articulate, and make friends easily. I have expressed to him that there are many things he could do if he would just spend some time on it. Apparently he has decided to spend some thought on it this upcoming year, and no one could be happier than me.

I know so many people whose major thought process is what kind of pizza to order, how much money they might make next year, and where their next round of golf will go down. My buddy spends his time trying to decide what country he needs to go next. He is in Costa Rica now for a week or two and he has been all over the world in his travels and shows no sign of slowing down.

To each his own on the hobby front, but one day we will meet the Lord face to face and give an accounting of the real purpose that He put us on this earth to accomplish. (You know He didn’t have to do so.)

Will we give an accounting like the verse below and smile broadly with Jesus or sheepishly hang our heads? The answer my friends is what you do for God on this blue planet in whatever time we have left. Nothing much will matter when we stand or kneel before Him. At any rate Have a Happy New Years!

Matt:25:23
“The master said, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’
