Yesterday I decided to keep working on filling the large potholes in my roads throughout my farm, this despite the near-death experience on Saturday.. Somehow I convinced my farmhand Willie to help me again yesterday and he told me he spent most of the day on Sunday at church praying and thanking God for keeping him from plunging into the ravine. He then spent much of the night on his knees praying and thanking God some more.
It was a serious moment and both of us could have been killed or seriously injured, but we were spared. It seemed to bother Willie much more than me. I don’t know why. It was a very close call for both of us, I was laughing about it when I told some of my friends. I’ve had so many of these experiences it is ridiculous. Somehow we both came out of it unscathed, and I chalked it up to the protection of Jesus.
My local seed and feed store was closed yesterday. A sign was on the door indicating that one of their young 22-year-old employees was tragically killed Sunday night and the funeral was yesterday. He had some car trouble and got out on the highway to look at it and see if he could fix it when a car came by at a high rate of speed and hit Sid tragically killing him. It was a hit and run.
This deeply affected me, and I can assure you that I’m not laughing now.. Sid was a good Christian boy and was well liked by all who met him. I was discussing it with my wife and told her that it was a shame for him to be taken at such a young age and an old coot like me was spared. I am told that the funeral was full of young people and his death had a huge impact on our local community. Perhaps that is why God took him on home to be with Him so soon.
This has been weighing heavily on my mind ever since I heard about it. It brings home the point that we must be always ready because we never know when our assigned time is going to expire. Sid missed out on a long life on this planet, but he is with Jesus now and I would change places with him in a heartbeat. I hope you have made the decision of following Christ and knowing peace forever. ONE JUST NEVER KNOWS…
Matt. 24:42
Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.
