I used to own a printed magazine and eventually added a video magazine whereby folks could watch as well as read it.. It was a very popular magazine and even today is still the number one magazine of its kind in the world. At the end I would throw a stick into the pond in my backyard and my lab Bear would retrieve it. One of the signature trademarks that this was always included at the end of each issue and to be sure it had nothing to do with the magazine, I just decided to end each issue with it.
One of the subscribers, Henry, got infuriated whenever he would see this occur. He wrote a couple of nasty letters telling me I shouldn’t waste time with “stupid” things like this and focus on the educational aspects of the magazine. I read the letters and was amazed that he was so bent out of shape about this. Bear just shook his head too.
At the time I had a band and I decided to write a song. The lyrics were:
Why don’t you lighten up Henry-eee
You’ve been working way too hard
Take your dog for a swim
plug your radio in
Go out and have a beeer in your backyard.
Henry was not amused but I was and Bear seem to enjoy it too. So I got an email the other day that read as follows:
Please remove me from all future mailings !!!!!! I’ve tried to unsubscribe over 20 times now !!!
I’m bewildered at his previous posts regarding Trump and no longer trust his judgment.
Tsk tsk I believe this is a quite an exaggeration. Twenty times he has tried to get us to unsubscribe – com’on man. The guys who maintain my website will take umbrage with that. And for the record it is very easy to unsubscribe oneself. Just press one button, (the unsubscribe ” button) and wallah you are unsubscribed. Hmmm . . . Sounds easy to me.
I stand by my comments concerning Trump and Biden, the gist of which is that out of the 350 million people in this country to choose for the highest office in the land we can do better than those two guys. Maybe not and president Trump is the only one from which to choose, should we lighten up a little.
My old lab, Bear” has long since departed from this earth. I have a new lab now, “Stormy”. I often tell him to lighten up and go jump in a lake. He enjoys it and jumps in with reckless abandon. Maybe we could learn from stormy. We all should take a step back and enjoy what life we have left. Jesus doesn’t want us to be in a tizzy all the time.
Saying things is easy. Meaning them—in the realm of will and emotions—is harder. Knowing what they actually mean is more difficult still. Living out who we know we are and whom we follow with total consistency is, well . . . dang near impossible.
We say we want to be like God, and we feel that we mean it. But truth be known we don’t. If we did really mean it, we would be having a lot more fun than we are and not getting ben out of shape over every little thing. As Christians following our stated first principles: that we are made in God’s image means we should strive to imitate Him. And God likes to have a good time.
Micah 6:8
He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?
