My neighbor’s mother died yesterday. It was a long time coming and she lived a very full life. A friend and I were discussing this situation and he made the remark that she had had traveled a long way during her long life, but nothing compared to the journey to heaven she is on now.
Hmmm . . . Is it a long way to heaven? I have never thought about it until this conversation, but I’m guessing we will be there instantaneously. Remember Jesus told the thief, “This day you will be in paradise with me”. Sounds like we get there quickly, and I would bet that this wonderful mother is there right now enjoying it to the hilt.
It’s hard to imagine the glory surrounding God and the place that He lives. I’ve been in some high dollar homes and seen my share of splendor in some beautiful places in my lifelong journey but have seen nothing in comparison. The Bible makes that clear “eye has not seen, nor ear ever heard the wonderful things that await us in heaven”.
I can envision Jesus being attended by innumerable glorious angels in the most beautiful of settings with streets paved with gold leading to the dazzling throne of God that is so gorgeous that it defies imagination. I can almost see God sitting on that glorious throne pondering the curse upon all of mankind and knowing that there was but one way for reconcilement to occur. That was for Jesus, His only Son, to leave His beautiful heavenly abode and be born in a lowly manger and later become a simple carpenter who after thirty-three years of living a sinless, perfect, life would be terribly crucified in our stead.
God knew that sin must be punished, and the only acceptable sacrifice was the shedding of the blood of His sinless Son. As His eyes roamed the earth and He viewed mankind from a perspective of past, present, and future, imagine the terrible sins that he saw emanating from His rebellious creatures. And still for some unfathomable reason He steadfastly loves us and has tremendous compassion for every single one of us and willingly died for our sins.
He didn’t have to do it!
God loves us with a love that is far deeper than anyone can imagine However His holiness cannot tolerate sin. There are occasions when perhaps we question that love, particularly when times are bad or tragic. All one needs to do however, is to remember how Jesus suffered and that He willingly left paradise and His throne because of His love for us and desire that we may be united with Him again forever just like this venerable God loving mother is with Him right now.
The very least one can do to show our appreciation is to attend church this upcoming Sunday and worship Him and thank Him for loving us enough to die an agonizing death in order that we might live. In fact, why wait, say a prayer right now wherever you are at this very moment and thank God almighty for what He has done for you personally and begin your walk with Jesus. Confess your sin, repent of them and change directions. You will NEVER regret it, not in 10 million years or ten trillion . . .
Seek the Lord while He may be found. Call upon Him while He is near.
