My good friends and neighbors experienced a very sad tragedy last Saturday. I called and asked my buddy and his wife if would like to go with Teresa and me to grab a steak. He told me ALL his grandkids were on their way over and he would need to take a pass. I could tell from his voice how genuinely excited he was as he told me they were going to spend the entire weekend with them. I told him how jealous that made me as he beamed about the weekend and quality time it promised.
My wife and I went on to dinner only to find out the next day that not even 15 minutes after the kids got there, they had a terrible crash on his all-terrain vehicle. They were all seriously injured, but one, in particular, had fractured his spine. He and his twin brother who was with him were both seriously injured as most of the kids were.
The one who broke his back is still in ICU and may not walk again. He has already had one operation and will have others. Fortunately, his spine was fractured and not severed. The doctor said he would be in for a long recovery of at least a year. He has his youth going for him and the entire family loves the Lord and I’m hopeful our Savior will see fit to heal this young man.
The twins do everything together, including working at the same place, going to the same college, etc. Ironically, the injured boy, Noah, is studying to be a surgeon. The entire family is suffering but his twin brother is suffering extreme mental anguish at a level only a twin can experience. It seems the kids were acting the fool, horsing around arguing about who would ride in the passenger seat, popping wheelies, and doing figure 8’s in the mud when the vehicle turned over. Ugh, it all happened so fast.
As I think about this today, I once again realize how fragile our lives are. One minute we are having fun and the next we are fighting for our lives. The family is devastated but they do realize that but for the grace of God, they could be making funeral arrangements right now. Tell your kids, grandkids, and loved ones how much you love them today. It doesn’t take much time and yet means the world to them. You will never regret it.
I humbly ask the entire Words For The Day readership to pray for Noah and his entire family right now. If you are in a prayer group, please add his name to your list. I believe in prayer and not a day has gone by that I have not prayed several times for this young man and his heartbroken family.
Lord, I beseech you to heal this young man and allow him to once again walk and yes run. Father, help the entire family to keep their focus on You when the pain and hurt are overwhelming. Help them to remain faithful and to see the good and blessings that surround them even at this sad time. Please strengthen their minds, hearts, and bodies, and heal them today. May the Holy Spirit guide them in peace and comfort through this difficult time. Amen!
Jeremiah 30:17
“But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,’ declares the LORD”
