I have been visiting my two sons and grandkids in Atlanta over the past several days. It has been refreshing being around my grandchildren especially. They are so full of energy and have more fun than a barrel of monkeys. My youngest grandson is exceptionally smart as are all of them. Although just 12 years old he has never made below an A and can solve the Rubiks Cube in less than two minutes. Both my sons and I tried to solve it and none of us even came close.
So, my son and I were riding along going to my two grandson’s lacrosse games, and my son called the youngest grandson on speaker phone. He was already at the game having gone early with his mother.
He answered the phone and said, “Hello”.
My son asked him something about the game time and my grandson said, “Can you hear me?”
My son raised his voice and replied, “Yes, can you hear me?”
He responded, “Oh there you are”, but then immediately said, “Hello, hello are you still there?”
My son once again asked, “Can you hear me?”
And once again he said, “Oh there you are I lost you for a minute”.
My son asked him again about the game time and then my grandson said, “I’m just kidding you, this is my voicemail”.
We broke out laughing so hard we nearly ran off the road. I have no idea how he came up with that trick but his timing was impeccable and he strung us along for several minutes. We went to his game and then to his brother’s game and they both played well. His older brother who is the goalie in fact won the game ball after making 14 saves and his younger brother scored a nifty goal.
The day before my older son’s twins and my younger son’s two boys and the adults went to see Top Gun at the theater and ate enough popcorn, candy, and mega cokes to ruin all of our dinners.
I tell you all this to make the point if you have not spent time with your kids and grandkids, maybe give it a try. It makes one feel young just to be around all that energy. We thoroughly enjoyed our time together and I look forward to moving to our new farm in Mississippi so we can be within driving range and see them more often. We are already planning Thanksgiving dinner on the farm if we can coordinate everyone’s schedules.
I truly believe the disintegration of the family is one of the most destructive things to our American culture that Satan has devised. Don’t be a part of it. And remember a family that prays together, stays together. We prayed prior to every meal and the grandkids participated.
1 Timothy 5:8
But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
