I got an email from a friend in Montana who wrote: The wife of a fine Christian couple we have known for years died from COVID yesterday. She was lucid until the end, saying, “I know where I’m going and I’m ready to go”. The husband has Alzheimer’s and when brought to the hospital didn’t recognize her. Sad situation, but as we say in our men’s Bible study, she just graduated.

The older I get, and I recognize that I’m likely in the final 10% of my lifespan, (though God could take me out as I write this – an awesome thought), the more I love His Word and His Son. What a comfort as I contemplate what you have written in your “Mind Boggling” post in Words for the Day.

So, most people in this country will celebrate Thanksgiving today. Some will use it as a day to get drunk, others will enjoy time with their families, and still others will donate their time and money to feed those who cannot afford to buy their dinner. We all have a free will to decide how we will spend our time.

Thanksgiving is a day that I believe should be devoted to God. My friend in Montana has some ailments dating back to his participation in the Vietnam War and he is growing older. I fought a different war on the mean streets of New Orleans and elsewhere and I’m feeling the effects of it and I’m growing older as well – Saturday I will be 75. I don’t know what percentage of my life on this planet is left, and like the lady who died of Covid and my friend, “I know where I’m going and I’m ready to go”. So, there is no reason to dwell upon it.

Why? Because Jesus has forgiven my sins and has guaranteed that I will spend eternity with Him. Problems? What problems? God’s everlasting mercy is all I need.

Psalm 100:4
“Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting, and his truth endures to all generations.”
