Yesterday I had to drive up to Miami to purchase some light fixtures for my new home. I listened to Rush Limbaugh part of the way and he gave a report on his lung cancer. Basically he said he is stage four, and he reported that the doctors told him that he was going to die from it. He is fighting it with chemo but had a recent setback and the cancer has spread.
He was very open about his deep and solid relationship with Jesus Christ and said that he didn’t know how he could get through this ordeal without the strength, courage, and hope provided to Him by his Savior whom he loves. He went on to mention that we all have a death sentence and he was no different from everyone else on the planet, aside from doctors making him aware that his life will likely end in months and not years.
Limbaugh has been extremely successful during his over 50 years as a broadcaster. He has an annual salary of $84.5 million and has a $600 million net worth. He recently signed an 8 year deal for over $400 million. For that he delivers his 3 hour radio show 5 times a week to 25 million listeners and according to polls is the most trusted personality in the country.
He has been married three times but has no children. He is very active in philanthropy. I wonder who will end up with all that money. I’m sure that by now he has made his plans. He broadcasts his show out of West Palm Beach in a $26 million dollar mansion. Who will replace him? I’m not sure anyone can.
Interestingly Howard Stern is the highest paid radio broadcaster and Rush is second. Stern has also had much to say on his network show concerning God, religion, and death.
- “Here’s what happens when you die – you sit in a box and get eaten by worms. I guarantee you that when you die, nothing cool happens.”
- Camille Paglia interviewed Stern in the Advocate in promotion of his book Miss America. Paglia asked “How do you feel about religion and politics?” Stern responded “I’m sickened by all religions. Religion has divided people. I don’t think there’s any difference between the pope wearing a large hat and parading around with a smoking purse and an African painting his face white and praying to a rock.”
- A reader wrote: “Howard Stern has said many times that he thinks there’s no god and that any religion, no matter how elaborate or how many people practice it, is no different than a ‘caveman worshipping a big rock’.”
- Towards the end of the April 14, 1999 show, a caller asked Howard if he believed in God. The caller appeared a bit disoriented, possibly drunk. Although Howard wasn’t explicit, he implied “no” as an answer. One of the things he said, “I can’t believe there’s a God stupid enough to create an idiot like you.”
I wonder if he were to receive the same diagnoses as Rush Limbaugh if he would be as cavalier. I don’t think so because he has said on more than one occasion the diametric opposite of his atheistic diatribe declaring: “I believe in God – I’m afraid not to”.
If only he would read and believe what the Bible states about believing in God. That alone is not the lifesaver he imagines – James 2:19 – You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror.
Tremble in terror! Imagine a powerful demon being absolutely terrified and trembling in fear just at the sound of the name Jesus Christ. The demons tremble at the sound of His name because they have seen Him and know what lies ahead on judgment day.
With Jesus as our Lord and Savior however, we can enjoy the peace of knowing that the price for our sins has been paid. We can know Jesus is right there with us and He has prepared a place for us to live with Him for eternity. We must ask Jesus for forgiveness and repent and follow Him instead of this evil world that is so dark and filled with black sin.
I prayed for Rush Limbaugh and Howard Stern this morning. I also prayed for all of those facing imminent death and especially for the lost. As Rush Limbaugh stated we all face a death sentence just like he does. Choose Jesus, He has won the victory over death and it no longer has a sting for those who love Him and earnestly pray for the lost.
