The older I get the more I adhere to the old adage: “Never say never.” Invariably as soon as one makes that vow they do what they swore not to do. I will never: be overweight; speak to so and so again; vote for Donald Trump; remarry; get drunk again; eat jalapenos again; go to church; and on and on. People change, situations change, inhibitions are raised and lowered, and temptations abound. A lot can happen on the way to never!
Age makes a difference for most people. Some of us become wiser, kinder, and more patient, especially to those whom have done us wrong. When we are young, let’s face it, it’s difficult to realize that we will not live forever. Judgment as a teenager, seems foreign, but as age begins to turn hair gray and wrinkles develop on our bodies and we get closer to the end than the beginning, we dwell on the significance of that thought a little more often.
Today I’m not surprised by much of anything. As a youngster I loved athletics and would never have thought I would smoke cigarettes, take drugs, or drink alcohol, and yet I did all three and quit playing sports altogether. I then thought I would never be able to quit smoking, drinking, or taking drugs and yet I did all three. I would never have thought I would have a loving family, be married for 49 years, become a multimillionaire, and yet those things happened. It seems I underestimated God much of my life before realizing that God is the “never factor.” Miracles happen with God. Dream for the good things in life and watch God’s miracles unfold. He loves you and wants only the best for you. Why the very hairs on your head are numbered.
Matt. 19:26
Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
