I read an article in Forbes magazine today that states that the earth is now cooling.
Huh?
What about global warming? I thought the glaciers in the arctic were melting which would raise the level of the ocean and destroy humanity? I searched the Internet to corroborate and sure enough I found a contradictory article that stated that signs of the earth cooling really means it’s warming.
Huh?
I heard President Obama say that those who don’t believe in global warming probably still believe that the earth is flat. That is an interesting statement. It was intended of course to ridicule anyone going against the Al Gore mantra of global warming, but as I recall from lessons recorded in history, the prevailing scientists of the day coupled with “those in the know” were the ones saying that the earth was flat. It was someone who didn’t believe the conventional science and wisdom of the day who proved them all wrong.
I wrote briefly about this in my latest book, Crazy Like Foxes: “The experts thought the world was flat, and Christopher Columbus proved them wrong. They said Earth was the center of the universe, and Galileo deflated that one. They said flying faster than the speed of sound was impossible, but Chuck Yeager showed otherwise. “Experts” said for years that the human body was incapable of running a sub-four-minute mile, and you were crazy to even try it. But Roger Bannister did it in 1954. And once he did it, everyone was doing it. Today high-schoolers routinely run faster than a four-minute mile, and in the past 50 years the record has been lowered by almost 17 seconds . . .
All these pseudo-intellectual naysayers had one thing in common; they were quite certain their hypotheses were correct, right up until the moment their theories exploded in their faces.
The problem with “experts” is that s-o-o-o many people believe them.”
I’m not denying that pollution is a miserable problem. I once visited India and thick smog could be seen for hundreds of miles prior to landing in Mumbai. When I walked down the street during my visit, the white shirt I was wearing was stained with soot and my eyes burned. There was so much trash in the river there it was nauseating. I felt sorry for the citizens living there and for that matter those who live in L.A. and Atlanta. With that said, whether those problems affect the entire world is entirely another matter.
I read today where scientist genius Stephen Hawking said that Artificial Intelligence, robots will replace humans COMPLETELY. He explained that “Once humans develop artificial intelligence, it would take off on its own and re-design itself at an ever-increasing rate. The development of full artificial intelligence could spell the end of the human race.” AI will have the capacity to replicate itself and will eventually be much more intelligent than the human brain. He said, “I believe there is no deep difference between what can be achieved by a biological brain and what can be achieved by a computer. It therefore follows that computers can, in theory, emulate human intelligence – and exceed it.” “Humans, who are limited by slow biological evolution, couldn’t compete, and would be superseded.”
He added that he thinks a new space program should be worked on urgently by the science community “with a view to eventually colonize suitable planets for human habitation.” He continued: “I believe we have reached the point of no return. “Our earth is becoming too small for us. Global population is increasing at an alarming rate and we are in danger of self-destructing.”
Hmmm . . . When I was just a little kid I saw a cartoon that depicted two cavemen. One was holding a bow and arrow and he was asking the other if he thought that the new-fangled invention might be the cause of so much rain lately. Some six decades later I’ve never forgotten that cartoon.
I think that sometimes we might not fully understand the insignificance of ourselves.
Theories of intelligent people from Plato and Socrates to Al Gore, (LOL), and Stephen Hawking are accepted and then discarded or disproven, but the Holy Bible remains the same. In this world of great uncertainty, we can rest easy in knowing that God is all powerful, all knowing, all present and He is on the throne watching over this little blue marble that He hung in space. He is in control and that is a good thing, because He is good.
He has given us a wonderful comforting gift in the Bible. His word has withstood the test of thousands of years and though written in ancient times by some forty different authors, on three continents in three languages with widely varying cultures, not one word has been disproven, though many including me tried to disprove it. Today it remains the most widely read and number one best-selling book worldwide.
If you are worried about the weather, robots, over-population, wars, or whatever read your Bible and listen to the Holy Spirit of God. He holds you in the palm of His hand and He loves you. Indeed, the very hairs on your head are numbered. He has a wonderful plan for your life if you will just believe in Him and follow Him, He will surely bless you the remaining days of your life and forever. His word shall not return void. That is one thing that is CERTAIN in this uncertain world.
Our God is an awesome God.
Rev. 1:8
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”
Have a great weekend and go to church Sunday!
