I saw something that was really laughable yesterday. It was a poll conducted by the media, (Reuters) that indicated people are beginning to believe the media again.

Oh brother . . .

Just yesterday our Secretary of State Rex Tillerson had to take time out of his busy schedule to refute a story from good old NBC News claiming VP Mike Pence had to restrain him from resigning and that he called the President a moron. Secretary Tillerson was livid as he called a press conference and angrily denounced it all as a pack of lies.

As I scanned the news this morning, article-after-hate-filled-Trump-bashing article filled the news and many are actually blaming him for the Las Vegas massacre.

Huh?

I remember the 8 long years Obama was President, and how much I disliked it as he meticulously dismantled this country attacking freedom of religion, enabling Muslim terrorists, inciting racial hatred along with his attorney general Eric Holder, attacking the 1st and 2nd amendments, illuminating the White House with the gay flag, pulling out of Iraq before it was stabilized, originating the idiotic Iran deal, giving away free cell phones not to mention more food stamps in the history of the program to potential Democratic voters, increasing our debt more than all previous presidents combined, taking over health care, opening our borders, bypassing congress with regulation after economy killing regulation, and on and on.

Conservatives disliked every single day he was in office, but didn’t try to disseminate daily lies designed to incite riots and encourage people like the shooter who shot majority whip Steve Scalise and quite possibly the madman in Vegas.

At his press conference Secretary of State Tillerson excoriated the press and asked: “What is wrong with you people?” He elaborated that he was not from Washington D.C. and could not begin to understand the nastiness, lies and pure hatred that is routine there.

It’s a shame that our nation doesn’t read the Bible. Proverbs 18:21 predicts what happens when careless words flow like a torrent from blabbermouths: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.”

True Christians are those whose hearts have been changed by the power of God. It is a change that should be reflected in our words. In Romans 3:13 the Apostle Paul described those who are dead in sin in this manner: “Their throats are open graves”.

Hmmm . . . Mull that over for a moment . . .

Our words are full of blessings when the heart is full of blessings. So, if we fill our hearts with the love of Christ, only truth and purity can come out of our mouths. I must constantly remind myself to tamper down my tongue. Unfortunately, I’m not successful as much as I would like and am the first to admit it. Too often I allow anger to rule my spirit. Jesus said “For every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” (Matthew 12:36)

Ugh . . .  Thank God for the grace of Christ!

Our words carry more weight than most of us can imagine. In fact, hardly a week goes by in which you and I don’t read or hear about some celebrity, elected official, or admired athlete whose reckless words have gotten them into serious trouble including loss of employment. Several have publicly expressed their desire for societal change at any cost and openly endorse violence as the means to an end. The problem is that the power of words can be instrumental in causing things to die. Like the impressionable partisan malcontent who shot Republican Scalise for no other reason than he was a Republican.

The implication of what we say is that what is spoken, becomes that.

The Bible talks to us about the power of the words that you and I speak. We are promised that “the tongue of the wise promotes health,” that “whoever guards his mouth keeps his soul from troubles,” and that “those who deal truthfully are God’s delight” (Proverbs 12:18; 21:23; 12:22).

Words have the power to give place to an attitude — an attitude set loose in the spiritual realm and with a power to shape something warped inside of us. Remember blessings come from heaven and curses are from hell.

God bless you all . . .

James 3:5

“How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire! And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell. For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind, but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God.”
