When I was in business in Atlanta years ago, I saw one of our employees walking down the hall scowling and just looking miserable. I inquired as to what the problem was and he muttered something about a very trivial matter. This guy had been unhappy for some time. I was worried about him. I knew him for years and I can tell that he just wasn’t happy in his life. He made good money, had a new car and house. He was in the prime of his life and his health was good. He had an interesting job that he liked and was well thought of by other employees.
What is missing? There is a song by the Rolling Stones entitled: “I can’t get no satisfaction”. The lyrics repeat “I try and I try and I TRY, but I can’t get no satisfaction”. I think what is missing in this young man’s life (as well as the Rolling Stones) is God. No one can find satisfaction apart from God. This person confided to me that he did not have a personal relationship with God and there you have it.
The one thing that completely amazes me is how quickly life passes us by. I am advancing in age and nowadays the years seem like months passing by instead of years. My hair is turning white and my arthritis makes me hobble in the mornings. I have less days to live than I have already lived.
I reflect on all of the years that it took me to find God and with Him, peace, happiness and satisfaction in my life. I truly regret that I wasted so much of my life looking for satisfaction in all the wrong places. I spent my fair share of time just like this young man scowling and being unhappy. I wish that I would have just stopped trying it MY way for once and listened to those in my life (and the gentle “pull” of my Father) who tried to steer me in the right direction.
I urge you not to be bullheaded like me and delay making the right move. You are truly missing out on the best that this life has to offer if you are not in sync with God. Don’t put off making a decision to embrace Christ until another day. Start enjoying life to its fullest today. You CAN get satisfaction, but only through a personal relationship with Christ. The best news is, it really isn’t difficult.

1 John 5:3
For this is the love of God,
that we keep His commandments.
And His commandments are not burdensome.
For whatever is born of God overcomes the world.
And this is the victory that has overcome the world – our faith.
