Many things in this modern world prevent us from enjoying peace. God does not want that for His children. I believe that peace is perhaps the greatest gift that God offers, aside from eternal salvation. If you are not enjoying peace in your life, check your relationship with God.

Is it what it should be? If not, why?

My son and I were talking about our relationship with God the other night and he stated that most folks know what we need to do, but sometimes we just do not do it. This is very true. Most people know what must be done to lose weight, exercise and eat less, but they just refuse to do it. They do not lose weight as a result. The same holds true for our relationship with God. Most everyone knows wrong from right and we know that if we make God the number one priority in our lives and follow God’s commands that we will enjoy peace, but invariably God drops way down our list of priorities; we ignore His commands and the result is restlessness and problems, not peace.

If you are suffering a restless, worrisome state today, re-evaluate your relationship with God. If it is not what it should be, take steps to improve it. If you have said to yourself that God is your number one priority and you are following God’s commands, but still cannot achieve peace because you are worried about something, think again. God commands us not to worry. Have faith that everything is working exactly according to God’s plan and according to His perfect time table. Be patient, do not aggressively try to resolve issues that are beyond your control, on “your” time table and according to “your” terms. Sit back, watch God work out the problem on His time table, in His perfect way, and enjoy the ride. Things will work out, just have some faith in God.

______________
Isaiah 57:19
. . . Peace, peace to him who is far off
and to him who is near,
says the lord.
And I will heal him.
But the wicked are like the troubled sea,
when it cannot find rest,
whose waters cast up mire and dirt.
