I have been blessed to have extensively traveled to gorgeous places throughout the world, and even live in some of the most beautiful locations imaginable, and the glory of God never ceases to amaze me.
One thing that always brings me to my knees is the night sky. Most never see it, because they live in cities with so many lights that stars and inky black skies are barely visible, but if you get out on the ocean at night, or if you visited my home at Honey Lake where there are no street lights at night, you would be treated to a tapestry unequalled by the finest artist since the beginning of time. Being an extremely early riser, I often would take my little dog outside at 2 or 3 a.m. and I would lay down flat on by back on our concrete driveway and stare at the sky in wonder. It is a fascinating sight looking at countless stars and watching meteors streak across the sky.
Being a sportsman for much of my life has allowed me to witness innumerable sunrises where I could see first-hand the forest come alive with activity as the sun’s rays began penetrating the woods displaying a dazzling array of color combinations that even the most talented designer could not create. Animals gracefully gliding through their trails and roadways providing a show one would never see on Broadway or anywhere else. No symphony ever captured the sound of an awakening forest with its birds welcoming the new day and squirrels chattering amongst themselves.
It is too bad that so many people have not seen the cobalt blue waters of the ocean explode as schools of dolphins playfully free jump alongside a speeding boat curiously turning their heads to view us as we view them. Both of us smile at the show. Smelling the sea, feeling the fresh ocean breeze; it is enough to make even the most sour person on the planet smile.
I urge you to go somewhere where you can enjoy God’s glory. Turn off the TV, the e-mail, the texting, the phone, and just visit with God. Find a park, take a trip out west, go to an island, God’s glory will be found everywhere; His glory alone will refresh you.
Isaiah 60:1
Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.
