Somehow I lost a day this week. Yesterday I thought it was Wednesday nearly all day long and consequently missed several calls and appointments. Even this morning didn’t feel like Friday to me, and yet today is Friday. Actually I’m keenly disappointed because I seem to have lost an entire day and I have so much to do I cannot even bear to think about it.
Ugh!
As I was thinking about this today I reflected on the next life where there is no time.
What will that be like?
I look forward to a time when I don’t have to consult my calendar several times a day, rush around to appointments, hit deadlines, and always be clawing and fighting to keep my head above water in getting done what I’ve vowed to accomplish according to that next pesky milestone. I’m also prayerful that there will be no texts, e-mails, and cell phones in heaven. I long to just relax and sit at the knee of Jesus and listen to Him teach.
I was reading my Bible the other night and was simply amazed at how He used such simple words to introduce powerful concepts that changed the world. One example was Jesus addressing some Pharisees:
Matthew 21:28:
“What do you think? A man had two sons. He went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work in the vineyard today.’ The boy answered, ‘I will not.’ But later he had a change of heart and went. The father went to the other son and said the same thing. This boy answered, ‘I will, sir,’ but did not go. Which of the two did his father’s will?” They said, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, tax collectors and prostitutes will go ahead of you into the kingdom of God! For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him. But the tax collectors and prostitutes believed him. Although you saw this, you did not later change your minds and believe him.”
Simple language brought powerful indictments against the religious elites for failing to learn from John’s baptism while a bunch of unruly rebels did and reaped the reward. I have been thinking of this example for days and marvel at the brilliance of it. In fact, His entire life is so inspiring and such an enigma that I am chomping at the bit in anticipation of spending eternity with Him.
Ah but it is not yet time, but not to worry I have my Bible and I can read about Him every day. I urge you to do the same. Read carefully and listen to him teaching you. He is the living Word and is described in Hebrews 4:12: “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.
Jesus is the “Word” and one day we will have the privilege of being face to face with Him in His presence . . . There will be no need for shame, guilt, remorse, or heartache because the former things were washed clean by His precious blood and will be forgotten. We will be perfected sons and daughters of the King and He will teach us with purity and tremendous love in such a manner that we will be amazed forever and ever.
John 1:1
In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Have a great weekend and go to Honey Lake Church or somewhere this Sunday!
