God designed mankind to work. Some do not seem to understand this concept and feel that we should work only because we ‘have’ to work in order to obtain the money that we need to live. So what if you hit the lottery, inherit mega bucks, or strike it rich in your career or business, should you stop working and live the good life?
Consider God when He created everything as we know it. He worked six days and rested on the seventh. In His early years, Jesus worked as a carpenter and craftsman. All of the disciples were working people from various walks of life. Work is a good thing! Work is not something that we should dread, hate, or try to avoid; we should go about our work with a positive mental attitude. Do you think God is at work right now?
Of course He is and He has all of the money, possessions, and literally ‘everything’ else. He is not working to further enrich Himself or because He ‘has to work’; He enjoys His work! We are made in the image of God; we should emulate Him in every way and work is just another important attribute that we should try to replicate in our own lives.
God is very creative with His work and of course His work is the absolute best. Just look at the flowers, birds, mountains, sunrises, sunsets, and the Miss Universe contest. Hubble shows us some of outer space and the beauty is simply breathtaking. How much more is out there that no-one but God Himself will ever see that He created for His own enjoyment we may never know; I’m hoping that perhaps He created it for all of heaven to enjoy too and he will open that portal to us as well some day. Hubble is currently just giving us a little taste of what is to come down the pipe for eternity.
We should enjoy’ our work and be enthusiastic about what we achieve. We should do our very best in everything we attempt. Way too many people resent the fact that they have to work; they resent their employer, their job responsibilities, and their manager. Since the average person spends more waking hours at work it must make for a pretty miserable existence.
I would not know about that. I love my work and go about it with enthusiasm. It is challenging and interesting and just plain fun to me. Much is in the Bible about work, laziness, and poor attitudes, particularly in one of my personal favorite books, Proverbs. Listen to what God tells us in this great book. The Bible tells us that Proverbs was written by King Solomon, and God made him the wisest and richest person the world will ever know. Bill Gates is one of the richest men in the world right now, but King Solomon could have bought and sold him. Einstein was smart, but people came from all over the world to listen to the wise advice of King Solomon and are still listening to him via the Bible.
We can obtain the wisdom of God via Solomon by simply picking up a Bible and reading it. If you intend to do so, pay particular attention to what he has to say about work and you just might not be nearly as concerned about retirement. Keep in mind too, that there are more ways to be rich than money. In fact money will not bring happiness, (Solomon tells us that too and he of all people should know). Work to enrich your life in more ways than just monetarily, not the least of which is interaction among other intelligent people including co-workers and business acquaintances. Happiness comes from God and following His commands, one of which is that we are designed to work and should enthusiastically do so
Proverbs 13:4
The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing;
but the soul of the diligent shall be made rich.
