I spent the day in Washington D.C. yesterday and last night, if you can believe it, I attended a church service inside the Capitol. It’s called the Jefferson Gathering and worship services have not occurred on a regular basis in the Capitol since Thomas Jefferson’s days until this service got going. They were revived two years ago by Pastor Dan Cummings and his wife and seems to be picking up momentum.
I went with a friend of mine whose husband was in Congress for some 17 years so we got to park where all the members park. The place was packed which is unusual, and as it turned out it was due to all of the meetings surrounding Paul Ryan’s ascension to Speaker. So we saw many of the same faces that are in the news daily as we walked through the Capitol.
Even though many of the congressmen were scurrying around caucusing about the Speaker issue, several of them took time to attend the service. We prayed with each of them that God’s choice would prevail in their deliberations and they were most appreciative.
It had been a while since I had been to the Capitol. I used to go up there and visit powerful people in order to influence them to help me with various issues facing my business. I would donate money to their election cycle if they would get me an appointment with this person or the next. It was much more fun to go up there this time and pray and talk to members and others about God.
One of the members told us that in spite of what we see on the news most members love the Lord and are doing the right thing. Indeed Speaker Boehner personally approved allowing this church service to occur. I was encouraged about that right up until my friend and I were leaving and she pointed out the new visitor’s center which had a museum in it. She stated that when Nancy Pelosi was Speaker and the center was completed she had every reference to God removed from it.
So you might think it is not important to vote for Godly people. You would be wrong! Each vote counts and every member is important towards restoring sanity to our country. Our country was founded upon our Christian heritage. Thomas Jefferson knew it and so did the majority of all of the founders. It would be difficult to remove all of the references to God from the Capitol or virtually any of the monuments, but there are those who are determined to do just that. The solution is not to get in a rage and stew about it, but to elect those who love and honor the Lord.
Even Moses understood this concept:
Due. 1:13
Choose some well-respected men from each tribe who are known for their wisdom and understanding, and I will appoint them as your leaders.’
