Not long ago I had a disturbing dream and I saw a very dirty looking man in a wheelchair. His hair was long and nasty and so greasy it was matted. He had two or three day’s growth of beard and both he and his clothing were filthy. He was foul and offensive in all respects and in fact something about him was so revolting that I could barely stand to look at him.
As I viewed him in my dream, I began rubbing my thumb and forefinger together and abruptly fire began emanating from my hand. The flame was about eight to ten inches above my fingertips.
Suddenly I woke up. I was deeply disturbed by what I had dreamed and prayed to God to understand what it all meant. It became clear to me that the filthy man in the wheelchair represented the United States.
In the Bible fire symbolizes God’s radiant glory as an aspect of His holiness. Fire is a wonderful picture of the work of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is like a fire in at least three ways: He uses fire to illuminate God’s presence and demonstrate His passion, and describe His purity and desire for the same in His church. Fire is often used to signify love as in God’s appearing in fire at various times to encourage His servants, and as a frightful tool of His judgment as with Sodom and Gomorrah.
What about the thumb and forefingers? What did that image mean in the dream?
Apostolic ministries adhere to what is known as the “five-fold ministries”. They point to various Scripture throughout the Bible that indicate that each finger of the hand represented in the Bible represents a certain gift of the Spirit.
- The Thumb represents the Apostle: The thumb touches all others and it enables us to grip. The Apostle is like the Heart revealing compassion & strategy for advancing the Kingdom
- The Forefinger represents the Prophet and he is like the mouth communicating guidance
- The Middle finger represents the Evangelist: it is the furthest reaching and they are always reaching out to souls
- The Ring finger represents the Pastor: married to the sheep he should always be with them leading them to righteousness
- The Pinky represents the Teacher: this finger is the one that gives balance to the hand. He has the Mind of Christ to bring wisdom and understanding
As I think about my dream, first I feel that the man in the wheel chair represents our nation. He is crippled and can no longer walk, much less run due to his condition. His filthy unkempt appearance is evidence of how he has given up on being clean and wholesome and has allowed himself to become offensive and grimy.
Rubbing the fingers together and then fire rising above them is a sign to me that God is calling for the church in the United States to rise up to help this man in the wheelchair (the United States). We must develop and implement a strategy for the church to cleanse this nation and to communicate compassion, loving guidance, and to go out to every nook and cranny throughout the land to reach lost souls and guide them to God’s loving grace. We need to instill the Mind of Christ in leaders to bring wisdom and understanding to our people whereby the desire for righteousness can burn within their souls. We must clean our nation of its immoral refuse.
The dream represents in my mind a call of love, but lest we forget fire will consume this world in the end. The promise of love and the knowledge of judgment are both fiery in nature.
Now you might think I just had too much pizza that night and my dream is a result of it along with indigestion. I believe with all of my heart the dream and interpretation of it is from God and is a call to the church about America’s current condition and what is needed to clean us up.
