Right before I got up to speak at the Oklahoma City Prayer breakfast, I turned to Governor Fallin and said, “I hope you won’t feel badly towards me after you hear my testimony and learn what all I did in my early years prior to becoming a Christian”.
The Governor has the most beautiful deep piercing blue eyes as anyone I’ve met and she turned to directly face me with them and said, “Oh Bob I would never think something like that”. Then she said, “We’ve all been through hard times at one time or other in our lives. I know I have!”
I often cringe when some little old Godly looking lady comes up to me and smiles and states that she just finished reading my book.
Oh boy! I bet she hears some stuff she never heard before . . .
But fortunately, (like the governor) they usually quickly tell me that they subsequently gave the book to their son or daughter or perhaps a niece or nephew and it helped them immensely.
It seems that there is plenty of misery to go around and today’s modern family including governors and people in high places are not immune to it all. In fact recently I had one of the heads of a huge police organization come up to me after I spoke and he began telling me that his son was struggling with drugs. This big strong man who is so fully in command and risks his life heading up a huge task force was helpless and had tears in his eyes as he recounted that he and his wife just didn’t know where to go to obtain help for him and how to deal with it.
I told him that it begins with Jesus Christ and that he needed to get him into a faith based rehab center pronto! I handed him a business card and offered to help him find one as soon as he contacted me.
Yesterday I wrote about a server in a restaurant who accepted Christ as her Savior after stopping by to chat with us. I found out she was fired from her job for seeking an autograph from me. This hotel does not want its patrons harassed. I contacted the manger and told her that we were the ones instigating conversation with the server, but they were adamant that she be fired. I told her, “Policy or not you should use common sense and common decency”. I said, “You wouldn’t give someone the death penalty for jaywalking would you? Why not just lay her off without pay for a day if you feel she needs to be punished?” Obviously management did not agree.
Nothing I said seemed to make a difference.
Gr-r-r-r-r!
Today I’m writing to the owner of this hotel (and the entire chain of hotels) whom I know to be a true believer and follower of Christ. I’m going to copy Governor Fallin and the mayor. I’m going to do my best to get her rehired and I asked some new friends who live locally in Oklahoma City to put pressure on them as well. This gal was devastated and she desperately needs this job. It is so frustrating – She is trying to begin a new walk with Christ and the first thing that happens is she gets fired for it. I’m praying for her as she fights through these hard times.
This world stinks to high heaven sometimes and it must smell like a massive city dump to God. Though we just get small samples here and there, He sees and hears it all. What a wonderful world it would be if all believers would come together and obey Christ and do His work. God commands us to unite and we should do it for no other reason than He told us to, but it also makes sense and is entirely logical.
Consider:
- We cannot feed a continent alone
- We cannot stop the martyrdom of Christians alone
- We cannot fulfill the Great commission alone
- We cannot protect innocent un-born kids alone
- We cannot undo the wrongs of a fallen world alone
We must humble ourselves and pray and ask for forgiveness and repent; we must join together and live lives that are acceptable to our Lord. That is what our ministry “The Jesus Alliance” is all about. Go to our website and join us and encourage others to do so.
So have a great weekend and go to church Sunday. Kenny tells me we have a great service lined up at Honey Lake Church and we would love for you to be a part of it.
Rev. 3:20
Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door I will come in . . .
