A friend sent me an article that appeared in an English newspaper over the weekend. Its author, Peter Mullen, stated that ten years ago only 3% of British people described themselves as having no religion. Today 50% classify themselves as non-believers, and among the under-25’s it is two thirds.

Why is the Christian faith in catastrophic decline in Britain?

Mr. Mullen wrote that he believes the main reason for the death of Christianity in his country is the official policy of secularization promoted officially and aggressively by the European Union. Christian emblems and the explicit Christian involvement in all areas of public life are prohibited by law.

There is a relentless cultural and bureaucratic attack on the expression of Christian morality, attitudes and opinion. According to Mr. Mullins even the church vigorously supports it. As testimony to this fact he cited Archbishop Rowan Williams who, in one of his last pronouncements before his retirement, declared: “The church has a lot of catching up to do with secular mores.”

Mullins incredulously wrote: “So Dr. Williams, we should catch up with secular mores? Whatever became of St Paul’s injunction, ‘Be ye not conformed to this world’?”

The advocates of secularization publicly rejoice and proclaim that in recent decades Britain has become “a more open, tolerant, and liberal society. The choices are limitless. Well not quite. The one thing which is taboo is the new sin of objecting to this moral chaos. All opinions are allowed – except those which cling to the Christian teaching of the last 2000 years. Everyone is permitted freedom of conscience – except Christians who are not allowed to have a conscience.

The relentless attack on those who refuse to condone the LGBT agenda due to religious beliefs is similar to the one right here in the United States and it means in no uncertain terms that anyone who dares to oppose them or their agenda is labeled a bigot or worse and they and their businesses are attacked with reckless abandon. That is everyone is being attacked who doesn’t endorse their policies except for the burgeoning Muslim population which no one seems willing to attack for fear of violent reprisal. They put gays in their society to a gruesome death and yet no one seems to publically offer even a little peep. Christians would never do such a thing. We do believe the Bible when it declares homosexuality to be a sin along with other sins such as adultery and that God punishes sin. We also believe the Bible in Romans 3:23 where it states: For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God – We all sin but we should all strive to avoid it. It is God who declares what sin is and not an ever changing society. His word is the same today as 1000 years ago as it will be 1000 years from now. That is one thing I love about Him and His word; He is solid like a rock and we can put our faith in Him and not fear He will change next week. In the end, (like Jesus), His church can love the sinner while we hate the sin that traps us all.

Mullins finished his article like this: “There has been a revolution and the secularizing diversity-mongers have won it. It is a “fait accompli”, a done deal supported by all political parties and policed by the new secular authoritarians. No use moaning about this. The old order – including Christianity – has been overthrown. The counter-culture is the culture now.”

Hmmm . . . Is it a done deal? If it is, what does it say about the future of the United States over the next few years? Church attendance is declining here as well; is Europe’s abandonment of the church a precursor of what is to come here?

Most seem to agree that the situation is without hope. In fact one survey I saw said that 82% of people worldwide have lost hope. And it is not reserved just for ordinary people, 70% of pastors have stated that we have lost the cultural war and cannot recover.

I say poppycock! Are these guys talking about the same God that spoke the world into existence? Is there anything too difficult for our omnipresent, omnipotent, omniscient God? No! My friends, according to the Bible, that would be impossible. The answer however does reside in us and our attitudes. We can meekly go as lambs to the slaughter or we can join together as God has commanded and build a better world in which Jesus is LORD of our lives. Homosexuals represent 2.6% of the population; atheists just 1.6% and they changed society. Just imagine what the 200,000,000 in the U.S. who have stated a belief in God could accomplish to turn things around!!!!

The Bible states in 2 Chron. 7:14 – If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

God’s “people” as referred to above are those of us who comprise the body of believers. We are the church, the bride of Christ and in John 17:21 He enjoined us to be “as one as He and the Father are One”. If we are to succeed we must unite together!

Is this really too difficult to understand? Think of it this way:

  • I cannot feed a continent alone
  • I cannot fulfill the Great commission alone
  • I cannot stop Planned Parenthood from taking the lives of millions of unborn children alone
  • I cannot stop Christian martyrdom and persecution alone

But if hundreds of millions of the true believers within the body of Christ will join together as one powerful force we can and will make a difference and accomplishing all of those things and more will not seem so hopeless.

It starts with you. We need you to join the Jesus Alliance and then we need you to recruit others. We are working on a series of programs that have the capacity to shake the world, but we need large numbers of believers to give us leverage. www.thejesusalliance.org  Sign up today – donate today . . .

1 John 1:9

If we confess our sins He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
