On more than one occasion people have told me that they wish that they had as strong of faith in God as I do. I got a letter from someone dear to me the other day who was struggling with their faith. How can someone strengthen their faith? The Bible states that faith increases with hearing the Word of God. I can personally attest to that. I do have tremendous faith in God. I am convinced beyond the slightest doubt that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. That He gracefully gave His life for ours on a cross. That He was resurrected and lives today. I believe that God is always good and that He loves us more than we can imagine. I believe that all of the evil in the world comes from satan, not God. I do not worry about having to have a black and white answer to every puzzling question, including why bad things sometimes happen to good people. I assume God has a reason to allow it, and everything will eventually work out according to His perfect plan.
I do study the Word of God and have done so for quite some time. I make time for this in my life. I go to church and listen to others interpretations of God’s Word and commands. I read books about it. The more I study the more faith I have. I also pray to God to help me to understand certain things. Invariably He will provide me with the answer that I need. I also on occasion ask more senior Christians, such as my pastor, about difficult subjects and seek counsel from those who have spent years in school studying the Bible. Hearing/reading God’s Word, prayer, and fellowship with other Christians is all we need to develop faith.
I know it works, because at the age of 24 I did not even believe in God, and I felt that if God did exist, that He had to be mean and I did not want anything to do with Him. What a difference today, not just in my opinion on that subject, but the quality of my life and joy that I now have. God makes my life now. I was miserable and headed straight to Hell. Now, I’m happy and heading to heaven; nothing can snatch me away from God’s grasp. The same thing that has happened to me can happen to you. Hear the Word of God and watch your faith increase daily!
