Well it’s Friday and it’s hard to believe that it’s finally here. Wow! What a week!
One of my favorite songs and one of the first I learned to play on the guitar is the blues classic Stormy Monday. Its lyrics are as follows:
They call it Stormy Monday
But Tuesday’s just as bad.
They call it Stormy Monday
But Tuesday’s just as bad.
Lord, and Wednesday’s worse
And Thursday’s all so sad.
The eagle flies on Friday,
Saturday I go out to play.
The eagle flies on Friday,
Saturday I go out to play.
Sunday I go to church,
Gonna kneel down and pray.
Lord have mercy,
Lord have mercy on me.
Lord have mercy,
Lord have mercy on me . . .
Today is Friday and the eagle flies. Because it soars upward, the eagle is a symbol in the Bible of the resurrection or ascension of Christ, (among other things). A friend of mine, (Messianic Jew) has the gift of prophecy, something that I thought ended after Christ came on the scene, but I saw it actually work recently and he told me things about myself that only God could have revealed to him.
He shared a verse with me, Isaiah 40:31
But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
We were sitting at my dining room table which overlooks Honey Lake and just as he finished quoting that verse a bald eagle flew right across the lake in front of me.
Yikes!
That spooked me out, for a moment but it did confirm to me that God was speaking through this man in order to comfort me. He had just told me that God wanted me to have peace and He wants to be my friend much the same as He did with Abraham. I want to be His friend too and let me tell you He doesn’t have to stick out His hand but once before I shake it.
I don’t know about you, but I’ve put my complete trust and “hope” in our Lord Jesus Christ and not anything in this world. This verse assures me that I too will soar like an eagle and ascend into heaven. The Lord will renew my strength which I badly need and I will be strong in the Lord and He will give me all I need, including the removal of distractions and building a hedge of holy protection around me in order that I can accomplish His purpose and the mission that He has assigned to me.
As His mighty work is wonderfully accomplished through my stumbling blundering fleshly effort, I pray that all the while I remain humble (especially when showered with His blessings on my ministry that are sure to come). I will continue to realize that all good things come from above and blessings are a gift from God and not of my own doing, lest anyone (especially me) might boast.
Exodus 19:4 seems to put this concept far better and more eloquently than I:
. . . I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. Exodus
So I am at the mercy of the Lord and so are you. His grace is sufficient in every way, but I still pray to him to extend it to me though I fully realize I don’t deserve it. Like the song Stormy Monday I end today’s entry with its ending:
Sunday I go to church,
Gonna kneel down and pray.
Lord have mercy,
Lord have mercy on me.
Lord have mercy,
Lord have mercy on me.
Have a great weekend and go to Honey Lake Church or somewhere this Sunday; and while there kneel down and pray and ask the Intercessor to have mercy on you (and me).
Also please don’t forget that dynamic Nancy Alcorn will be with us April 13th. Her message is extremely powerful and she routinely speaks to 25,000 or more and is a regular with Joyce Myers and other mega ministries. What a blessing to have her at our tiny church. God has given her a heart especially for abused women and those experiencing pain in their lives. God has blessed her Mercy Ministries beyond measure and she has a message that will capture your heart and soul. I urge you to put this date on your calendar and make an effort to attend.
Hebrews 10:25
And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.
