Yesterday I went to a political fundraiser breakfast with Mitt Romney. As luck would have it, we had one empty seat at our table and Governor Romney walked up and asked if he could sit with us. Having this one-on-one exchange with him while we enjoyed breakfast was interesting. I was very impressed with his quick mind, (he does not need a teleprompter), rapier sense of humor and wit, and knowledge of the issues, (plus he loved grits, and we all know that anyone who loves grits ain’t half bad).
After breakfast he gave a short speech and then answered questions for our small gathering. One of the things mentioned was that the 2012 election could very well be our last chance to find a way out of the mess our country is in.
Consider that currently 50% of the citizens of the United States pay zero taxes. This group is President Obama’s political base and to vote against him would very likely spell an end to their government paid lifestyle and they aren’t keen to vote for anyone who might support making them pay some taxes and/or take away some of those government checks. Add to that those who traditionally, mindlessly, vote in blocks for the Democratic ticket like unions, trial lawyers, African Americans, and the liberal minority and one can easily see how difficult it will be to win this election, especially when one considers that Obama has one billion dollars, (with a “B”), to spend on attack ads.
Yesterday Mr. Obama called Americans lazy and the press was having a field day with it, asking how anyone such as him who’d never held a job could have the nerve to say such a thing. Not long ago he also announced at a national forum that Americans were uninspired, unimaginative, and lacked ambition.
Hmmm… I can truthfully say that I took offense to those remarks, because I’m not lazy, I’m very inspired, I have a vivid imagination, and I have ambition. I’m not the problem Mr. President.
As I think about his remarks though, I’ll be darned if I don’t know that he might be onto something here. Many Americans are indeed lazy, uninspired, unimaginative, and lack ambition. I’ve finally found something that Mr. Obama and I agree on.
UH – RAH!
It seems that many in this country and indeed around the world want their government, (and the few that do pay taxes), to support their lifestyle. While millions of people in China flock from their rural homes into crowded smog filled cities in order to make their dreams come true and have the wonderful opportunity to make a whopping ten cents per hour, many Americans remain comfortable sleeping in until noon in their air conditioned public housing apartments. Then after a leisurely breakfast and a quick trip to the store to pick up a 12 pack of beer and some chips with their welfare checks and food stamps, they’re all set for the day of watching their favorite sitcoms on their color television sets. (Sounds like much of that Democratic base – eh?)
Ironic isn’t it? A totalitarian communist country overtakes our economy because people are willing to work hard to improve their lot in life in the communist country, but not here in the good old USA.
I worry about my children and grandchildren more than for myself. I don’t advise my ailing 90 year old dad to buy green bananas anymore, and I’m not far behind him. We are fast approaching the end of our era and the sun is setting fast, but my kids and grandkids have their entire lives ahead of them.
I wonder what will become of them…
I believe in the verse, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”, and that sentence begins with “I” and we should use every means at our disposal to make positive things happen. I urge you to get off the couch and be involved in this next vitally important election. Contribute your time, money, your vote, and importantly your prayers to changing leadership in congress and the office of president. If you choose to sit idly by on your duff, don’t whine when the age of Greece is ushered into this country and you watch as the “Occupy Wall Street” bums burn down our cities.
This really isn’t a political argument. It is simple logic and fact. Our nation cannot survive unless we change. If we keep doing the things that got us in this mess we will continue to obtain the same results. The Romans saw their civilization decline and disappear when a similar non-productive lifestyle mentality became prevalent in that once great country, and so will the United States unless something is done to change our direction. It must begin with changing our leadership or the fat lady will begin singing.
OMG – Now I’ve gone and said something politically incorrect and I will hear from the speech police today sure unless I correct it. I didn’t mean to be so brutally frank and politically incorrect by saying “fat” lady. I meant to say, “Obese lady” – Uh I mean, “Way overweight lady?” – Okay – “Very large lady?” No? – How about “Corpulent lady?” – “Rotund lady?” – “Podgy lady???”
I got it – “Pleasantly plump lady”. See I can be politically correct in this column. How’s this? It’s not too early to think about decorating the “Holiday tree” this “Happy Holiday” season while the “pleasantly plump” lady sings our swan song.
Stop right there That’s not very inclusive – Why single out swans? Why not a mallard or a wood duck song?
Okay, okay – Too much coffee this morning. I’m better now.
The Bible has much to say about laziness and how it will bring ruin to individuals and nations. King Solomon was the richest and wisest man the world will ever know and he devoted many verses to this subject in Proverbs. Paul wrote about it too.
In the end it is sin and there is always consequence to sin. Let’s pray that our consequence is not the end of our nation that we love and cherish.
2 Thess. 3:10
For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.
