Love it – lose it

Our country just passed a milestone. For the first time ever, we now owe a mind boggling $15 trillion dollars. It’s no surprise that the congressional committee of 12, our illustrious “Stupor” (or better “Stupid” Committee), cannot agree on cutting spending or reforming the tax code and will probably do nothing but blame each other in a most partisan way. Of course if they cannot agree, then mammoth mandatory cuts will occur to defense.

I have long wondered why the United States is not mentioned in biblical prophecy concerning the end times. Sadly I’ve come to the conclusion that it will no longer be a factor on the world scene. Yesterday President Obama boldly announced that we are putting troops in Australia as a deterrent to communist China.

I love our Marines. They are the bravest, toughest, and best fighting force in all of the land, but even they have their limitations. Mr. Obama is putting all of 250 Marines in Australia as a deterrent to China’s 200 million man Army. Not to worry, that force will swell to 2500 Marines within a couple of years.

Jeez…

I have long worried that if the United States ever turned its back on Israel, as Mr. Obama seems determined to do, and our country continues to turn away from God and towards immorality, that He will destroy it. I wonder if the reason we are not mentioned in the end times in the Bible is that we will be defeated militarily???

All of this news compelled me to revisit biblical accounts of Sodom and Gomorrah this morning. Those people turned their back on God and finally the Lord had enough and destroyed their once great cities.

Before He destroyed them God ordered Lot and his family to depart and told them not to look back. Lot’s wife ignored that command and when she longingly looked back on that land that she loved, she turned into a pillar of salt.

Yikes!

That sounds harsh.

To better understand I went back to read more. Genesis 19:26 – “But his wife looked back from behind him” – Herein she disobeyed an express command. I think she probably longed for her house and goods in Sodom, and didn’t want to leave them, or maybe she longed for her friends, or perhaps it was the lifestyle that she’d enjoyed and that she was loathe to leave.

Christ intimates the following to be her sin, Luke 17:31-32: Remember Lot’s wife! Whoever tries to keep his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it”. She was in love with the world that she’d been told to leave behind. And her looking back spoke to an inclination to go back and hang on to it instead of following God; and therefore our Savior uses it as a warning against apostasy, (or falling away), from our Christian profession of faith. She was struck dead in place and turned into a pillar of salt as a perpetual monument and example to those who would likewise disobey God’s commands.

It always seems to boil down to we have the choice to either love the world or love Christ. Those who love this world and all of its wickedness will not see heaven.

As Christians we are to remain faithful to God and our belief system and not to the world. As the world moves towards Armageddon, just as in the days of Sodom it will become more wicked. Many Christians will turn away from their faith and towards the lusts of our world and its leader, the anti-Christ, and before it’s over will actually worship him.

Jesus warns against apostasy.

Hmmm… I say keep the faith and don’t worry about things. Pray for our country and that our leaders will come to know God and will follow Him instead of the world. Pray for revival. It is interesting to note that God was willing to withhold His judgment if righteous people could be found in those cities. Sadly they could not, but God put that in the bible for a purpose and I think that is to show that there is hope. With God there is always hope – we just need to take advantage of it and stick to our faith and witness every day….We should hate this world that we live in and long for the day that God will call us out of it. If you don’t hate this world, then you might want to read the following verse and mediatate on it. Selah…

John 12:25

The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.
