Think too much

My wife tells me that I think too much, but the other day I was wondering about God punishing sin, and I questioned whether or not everything is pretty much preprogrammed or manual. In other words, does God micromanage everything? If so, when He observes sin, He would personally have to take some action?

Or is He simply too busy to personally micromanage every single sin being committed all over the world every second of the day and instead maybe He decided just to set up laws that automatically govern sin that have an action and then an automatic reaction preset and always in place?

Are the everyday laws that govern our lives similar to the example I gave in WFTD the other day, whereby sin is akin to throwing a rock at a glass window and the window will just automatically shatter upon impact whether we regret it or not and it is simply an incontrovertible fact of nature.

Did God set up His laws to work in the same manner? If so, He would not necessarily have to personally intervene into each and every matter.

Back in the day we used to write computer software with “If/Then” statements. “IF” you press the enter key “THEN” the cursor will move down and begin a new paragraph. IF you press the caps lock key, THEN it will type all caps. IF you press the F1 key THEN online help will appear, etc.

I wonder if God did the same thing. IF you murder, THEN you will face jail, IF you commit adultery, THEN you will face divorce, etc. IF this is true, THEN the Bible became our User’s manual.

(I hope God will allow me to be on his computer programming staff in heaven, this is pretty cool stuff.)

A deep thinker might ask, What about prayer? If God has everything preprogrammed, is prayer useless?

Any programmer worth his salt will enable users to override the computer. It would be as simple a matter as upon hearing a prayer request, God would pull it up in His logic storeroom, (His brain), and view it on His perfect monitor, (His mind), and look into the matter.

After seeing that the preprogrammed response for driving drunk under such and such conditions is to get into a car crash and die. If however, after giving the prayer request due consideration, He wants to show mercy and alter it, God would activate the drop down box and check out alternative actions. After viewing His choices He might override the death option and selects hospitalization, loss of driver’s license for one year, and walk with a limp the rest of your life instead.

Hmmm. My wife is right, I think too much!

Welcome to my world

Matt. 7:7
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and it will be opened to you.
