Last night I went to a Christian Sportsman wild game dinner at the First Baptist Church in Thomasville Ga. I along with hundreds and hundreds of other local sportsmen ate barbequed wild hog, fried alligator tail, venison sausage, catfish, duck and quail. The food was good, (burp), and the camaraderie with other Christian sportsmen was excellent.
The keynote speaker was a professional bass fisherman. He shared his testimony and he gave all the credit to God for his remarkable success in winning every conceivable honor associated with professional bass fishing.
I was particularly impressed when he related how, after a hard fought year on the tournament trail, he won the highly coveted angler of the year award. The tournament in part had been sponsored by Budweiser and they put up $100,000 as prize money for this tremendous achievement.
In return for their sponsorship, they intended to put his photograph everywhere they sold beer including liquor stores. As a Christian he had real convictions against having his name associated with a beer company and for sure he did not want to appear as though he was endorsing beer to young men and women.
He decided that he just could not in good conscience accept that money or allow his photo to be used, and then he had an idea. He had written a book about becoming a Christian and how it had dramatically changed his life for the better. He decided that instead of using the Budweiser prize money for his own personal use, that he would donate all of the money towards giving away free copies of his book.
Later as he toured the country, people came up to him time after time and told him that they had received a copy of the book through the free offer and after reading it had accepted Christ as their Savior. He was overjoyed at standing by his convictions and using the money to achieve such tremendous results for the Lord.
I wonder how many Christians would have done likewise. Would you?
Hmmm Our congressmen are getting ready to vote on Obama’s healthcare bill. It is a terrible bill created through the worst corruption and crooked deals in the history of our great country. The worst of the worst is that this horrible bill would allow every American’s hard earned tax dollars including mine and yours to be used to fund abortion. The analysts anticipate that the vote will be held on Sunday, (can you imagine a worse day for this?)
I urge you to do as I have done and call and e-mail your representatives in Washington and ask them not to vote for this bill or suffer the consequences of your wrath at the ballot box. It will not cost you $100,000 to do so, just a little time Googling up the phone numbers and e-mail addresses and then making the calls and sending the e-mails. Also pray that enough brave souls will stand against this bill and vote it down.
Today you have a great opportunity to stand tall for your belief system I urge you to do it.
James 2:14
What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
Today you have a great opportunity
