Back on the plantation it has been gray, drab, cold, and bleak. It has been relentlessly raining for weeks and it has put me in a very foul mood. If it even so much as looks like it might possibly sprinkle a little rain, my construction guys won’t work. If they do come to work and accidentally get caught in a rain shower, then everyone must use extreme caution, or take their chances on being run over, or at the very least be blinded by mud spewed in every direction by furiously spinning mud grips as pickup trucks streak off the property heading for their homes and the six packs that await them there.

Needless to say, (but I’ll say it anyway), progress on our resort, spa, meeting center, and restaurant has been halted by the monsoon season and rain-averse work force. To further add to the doom, I have just experienced the conclusion of hunting season and there is little to do and I have been bored silly. It is too nasty to go freshwater fishing and the roads have been turned into quagmires by the relentless rain which has made them unfit for horseback riding, hiking, or pretty much anything else.

What to do?

I returned to my home in the beautiful Florida Keys Saturday and the weather is polarized-sunglass-sunny-bright. I have already reunited with several friends who have excitedly told me that the sailfish bite is unbelievably extraordinary right now. This is due to the cold weather up north that has driven large numbers of the hungry critters down to the warmer waters that begin in my backyard.

I am preparing for numerous days of fishing over the next couple of weeks beginning early in the morning. To be sure I will also spend ample time relaxing around the pool in the sun by day and let’s not forget soaking in the hot tub by night. To avoid sunburn I will work on my book intermittingly as well.

I am cognizant that parts of this great country are experiencing really bad weather with massive snowstorms, sleet, rain, and mudslides. If that is not something that will put everyone in a foul mood then they can listen to any news channel and hear the latest about how badly the recession is going, get the update on the unemployment figures, hear the status of the two wars that we are fighting, and learn in detail how our country’s elected politicians are spending our tax money faster than it can be printed.

I almost, (that’s right, “almost”), feel guilty about enjoying the 76 degree weather that is in the forecast

Credit me for something. In spite of all of the woes in this world, I have found something to cheer about. I’m in the Florida Keys.

We “all” need something to cheer about.

Can’t think of anything?

Let me help you, did you know that there is nearly three feet of snow in Washington D.C. and that almost ensures that Congress and the President will not be able to take over any businesses, banks, increase taxes, or pass any more spending or stimulus bills next week?

Not good enough to make you utter, “hoo-rah”?

Ok rent my vacation rental home and get on down here to join me for a couple of weeks of fishing, or read the verse below, or both.

Matt. 28:6
He is risen
