Not long before his suicide my brother called and told me that he could not understand why we were so radically different. He stated that we came out of the same womb, looked similar, and had comparable intellects and yet by all accounts I was extremely successful and he was not. I had been married for three decades, had happy well adjusted and successful children, a great career, but most of all I had peace and joy in my life. By contrast he told me that he was an abject failure as evidenced by multiple failed marriages, floundering career; he stated that his kids were a wreck, as was his personal life with drug addiction topping the list. He was miserable, depressed and unhappy. I told him that as far as I could tell there was just one difference between us, albeit it was a major difference, and that was that I had God in my life and he did not.

As I ponder the downward spiral of the United States I cannot help but see the parallels. Once mighty and strong and the envy of the globe, the United States is now reeling with skyrocketing unemployment, failed banks and major businesses such as the automakers, insurance companies, and airlines, subprime mortgage foreclosures rampant, credit card debt out of control, and our biggest problem our national debt which was nothing in the eighties and now is something like 11 trillion dollars. The United States is now being looked upon with derision by countries that once envied us. It all happened so suddenly. Whew!

The Bible does not mention the United States in the end times. I always felt that it would be taken out by a nuclear attack, but I am becoming more convinced that it will simply fall from within. Recently a friend sent me a prediction by a Russian economist who has been predicting that the United States would fall and be split into several different parts for many years. He was scoffed at years ago, but now is being taken more seriously. He stated that the foregoing economic conditions and also the great divide of people in this country that I fear is akin to civil war days will be our undoing.

I don’t know what will happen, but the United States is not doing very well these days. We have to ask the question, “Why?” I believe it is the same answer I gave my brother just a few years ago; because we no longer have God in our nation’s life. Many of you are not old enough to remember, but I can remember when our nation was far different. Back in the 1950’s drugs were not readily available on any street corner, teen pregnancies were abhorred and if someone did get pregnant they went to an unwed mother’s home or got married. Homosexuality was viewed as perversion, and gay marriages would never have been even contemplated. Television came on the scene and initially was filled with shows that were just clean fun. There were no nude scenes, there was no foul language, and perverted violence. Movies like Old Yeller were the norm. There was no filth on the radio, television and of course the mighty Internet and its filth had not been invented yet. We could and did pray in schools, football games, and in Government. The Ten Commandments were posted in public buildings.

In just fifty or sixty years, all that has changed now. This country has turned from making God the centerpiece of our government, “One nation under God” “In God we trust” and moved towards disassociating ourselves from Him in a secular government and schools and our own lives. We have allowed greed, corruption at all levels, sex, violence, perversion, abortion, and similar antichrist activity to run rampant in our society. Why is the United States floundering? Because we no longer have God in our country’s life and in our lives!

There will be some that scoff at this writing, but I ask you to read your Bible and study the countries and civilizations that have thrived and died enumerated therein, especially Israel. When Israel was close to God and following God and had Godly leaders, she prospered as no other country has ever prospered just like the United States. When the ungodly took over control of Israel and antichrist activity began to reign supreme, God turned His back on her and even let her be utterly destroyed on more than one occasion.

These are not hard lessons to learn provided we have an open mind and objective heart. God punishes sinful nations and sinful people. Much of what is happening in the United States is hard core sin! The United States must have revival or suffer the same fate as those civilizations that have defied mighty God and disappeared and are no more. This ain’t rocket science folks. God blesses the nation whose God is the Lord. When we sing, “God bless America”, we must understand that we must make God our Lord in order for it to happen

Psalm 33:12
Blessed is the nation whose
God is the Lord.
