In witnessing to others I find that the most difficult people to convince that they need Jesus are those who think they are not sinners. With me it was easy. I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that I was a sinner and in many respects I lived a life of sheer evil prior to becoming a Christian. There are those who are not like that at all and in the eyes of the world are solid citizens’. These folks have a very difficult time accepting the fact that anything they have done is so bad as to condemn them to everlasting torment in Hell. I have also noted that even many Christians who have accepted Christ fall into this category are not nearly as appreciative of what Christ did on the cross for them as those sinners who know in their heart that they have sinned and are deserving of severe punishment and are very appreciative that Jesus Christ took that punishment on their behalf.
It is not difficult to become a Christian. First though we must recognize that Jesus is God and that he died on our behalf taking the punishment for our: what? Our sins! This would be extremely difficult if we did not accept the fact that we are sinners in the first place. The mores and acceptable laws of society are not the same as God’s holy laws. The Bible is explicitly clear that God is holy. He is light and in Him is no darkness at all. God cannot tolerate any sin, even what society deems as a tiny little sin and considers it acceptable, (Bill Clinton). God does not make that distinction and His law is what we will be judged by, not our current society’s laws. A little white lie’ is total darkness to God. He cannot tolerate any’ sin no matter how small we or society thinks it is. If we walk in darkness God cannot tolerate it. The blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all unrighteousness and allows for us to walk in His light.
I suppose the best way to describe it to an unbeliever solid citizen’ type is to tell them to throw out societal laws as society will not judge you in the next life, God will, and He will look to God’s’ laws to accomplish it. In this arena, just thinking’ something bad such as lust, or coveting, or getting mad at someone is darkness and a sin deserving of eternal separation from God who cannot tolerate darkness/sin. Everyone is guilty of numerous sins including the Pope, Mother Teresa, Billy Graham, Martin Luther, the disciples, prophets,us, et al, and even one’ sin that remains uncovered by the blood of Jesus can and will condemn us to eternal separation from God which is a life of eternal darkness and torment.
1John 1:8
If we say that we have no sin, we
deceive ourselves, and the truth is
not in us.
If we confess our sins, He is
faithful and just to forgive us our
sins and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.
If we say that we have not sinned,
we make Him a liar, and His word
is not in us.
Just admit it already…
