Gifts and giving

Man the shopping malls are slammed and people are buying gifts like there is no tomorrow. I hate to shop as part of my nature, but I fight the traffic and crowds because I love to give gifts, (almost to a sickness), and the Christmas season is one of my favorite times. My favorite people to give to are the ones who really need things and are happy to receive whatever it is that I give them. I don’t like to be thanked and often give anonymously.



I do not like to give to anyone who does not appreciate what I have done for them however. I don’t think anyone likes that including God. God gives many gifts to us and we should be eternally grateful. Do you know what God’s greatest gift to us is? According to the Bible it is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord.



My hope is that I will not disappoint God by demonstrating a lack of appreciation for His greatest gift. Jesus paid a heavy price in order that we might have eternal life. Although I can never give an equal gift to Him or anywhere near it, I can try my best to please Him by trying to abide by the laws set down by Him in the Bible. There is no question in my mind that he would be pleased with that effort, provided I do indeed “try my BEST”. I guess we could all improve in our effort in that area as few of us ever give anything our very BEST…



Romans 6:23

For the wages of sin is death,

but the gift of God is eternal life
