In order to be forgiven of sin one must first admit that they are a sinner. I had no problem realizing that I was a sinner and have no problem realizing that even though I am a Christian now, unfortunately sin still exists in my life all too often. I know people who do not feel this way. They view themselves as “solid citizens”, with no real need for forgiveness. And perhaps by society’s laws and mores they are correct. Who would think the Pope is a sinner? Or Billy Graham? Or, when she was alive, Mother Teresa? Well God for one and I am quite sure that the people I named would not disagree if we asked them individually. If these citizens are sinners, what about the rest of us?
The Bible states unequivocally that ALL have sinned. One can correctly assume that we are born into sin and all are in need of forgiveness regardless of the “stellar” life that we think that we might be living.
Jesus Christ is the only Person who lived on this earth entirely free from sin and thus became the only acceptable sacrifice that would satisfy the righteous requirements of a holy God providing the means for reconcilement. Holiness and total intolerance to the slightest sin, even if it is just a wayward thought with the penalty of death and eternal damnation for that sin is difficult for me to understand and alas will very likely remain a mystery to me until God provides additional explanation after I die and join Him in heaven. This is one of those things that we just have to accept through faith. His holy word states it and we are to accept it, or we can take our chances and declare ourselves righteous and call Him a liar and by so doing reap the consequences of spending eternity apart from Him in Hell eternally damned and condemned.
God made it so easy to reconcile, one has to wonder why so many reject His love and offer of reconcilement??? I sincerely hope and pray that no one reading this is in that situation today. If so, know that it is easy to reconcile to God. Simply do as billions of others have done before you. Acknowledge that you are a sinner, ask forgiveness, and accept Jesus as your Savior.
1 John 1:8
If we say that we have no sin, we
deceive ourselves and the truth is
not in us.
If we confess our sins, He is
faithful and just to forgive us our
sins and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.
If we say that we have not sinned,
we make Him a liar, and His word
is not in us.
How well do you know the Bible?
He who denies that Jesus is the Christ is defined in the Bible as a liar. It goes on to say, “He who denies the Father and the Son is the ____________”. Fill in the blank.
1 John 2:22
