Last week was a heck of a week. I traveled several thousand miles and worked a horrendous amount of intense hours, (over forty hours on just two days Thursday and Friday). Needless to stay I was exhausted this weekend. I caught up on my e-mail on Saturday and did some stuff around the house. I decided to go fishing on Sunday. Initially I was going to church on Staurday night, (they have church on Staurday nights in the Keys because so many guides and hotel workers etc. have to work on Sunday); however on Saturday night I was too tired. Sunday I went fishing and did not go to church.
The first thing that happened was my fishing buddy called at 6:00 AM and told me he could not go as he was admitting his wife into the hospital with pneumonia. I decided to just go by myself. I loaded up everything by myself and headed out. I had a miserable day and caught only a few fish. The seas were rough and I was still exhausted from the previous week. All in all it was a miserable day. I felt guilty the entire time for skipping church and finally I just came in. I unloaded everything solo and cleaned up the boat. More exhaustion…
Satan does not want us to do what we are supposed to do. We must hold our ground when tempted, and keep in mind that the pleasures he tempts us with are not what they are cracked up to be. Sundays are for worship and we should be in church if at all possible. No one knows that any better than me, yet I yielded to temptation. My lesson was learned by the miserable fishing trip, (at least until the next time I am weak).
Now I am faced with another grueling, pressure-packed work week without being spiritually refreshed and rested. God did not design us for this kind of abuse.
By the way, my wife went to church like a good girl and had a wonderful time. Next Sunday I will be in church.
Exodus 35:2
Work shall be done for six
days, but the seventh day shall be a
holy day for you, a Sabbath of rest
to the Lord…
When the foregoing was issued, what was the penalty for violating it?
