Everyone continues to commit sins even after they come to know the Lord; this in spite of our best intentions. There is something about our very nature that will not allow us to lead perfect lives no matter how much we desire it to be so. I was a wild child and easily fit the description of the proverbial black sheep of the family. We had a family meeting one time when I was about 16 or 17 years old. I had just committed some grievous act and my family was gathered around the dining room table and the topic being discussed by my family was centered on determining the reason that I was always in trouble. My mother asked my father if he knew and he said that he had no idea. She then looked at my brother and asked him, he simply shrugged and said, I dont know, bad seed I guess. Everyone laughed heartily at my expense.

My brother might not have been that far off base with his humorous analysis. The Bible states that we all inherited sin from our distant relatives Adam and Eve who committed the original sins. For centuries it has been passed down from one generation to the next. Jesus who was born of a virgin did not sin, ever! When we accept Him by faith our spirit is born again of Christ but the flesh remains as it was. Thus our dilemma of the spirit being willing to obey the commands of God but the flesh being weak continues right up until the day we die. Throughout history even saintly men and women have succumbed to sin. Moses was denied access to the Holy Land because of it. David sinned with Bathsheba and suffered severe consequence.

Fortunately when we sin we can be forgiven and not be condemned to Hell for it, by Jesus who took the punishment for all of mankinds sin, but we must repent as part of the reconcilement process. David was truly sorry that he sinned with Bathsheba. A section of his prayer of repentance to God after committing this sin is recorded in Psalms for us below and should serve as a model for those of us who are occasionally Bad Seeds and want forgiveness for our trespasses…It should be noted however that even though the sins were forgiven and David was truly sorry, severe punishment was still meted out to King David as a consequence of his grievous sin. We must make every effort to fight off our weak fleshly natures. Intense prayer, combined with Bible study and fellowship with other Christians are our main lines of defense against the temptations that we face. Stay focused on God, and if you mess up, repent and then grin and bear it when you reap your consequence…

Psalm 51

Have mercy upon me, O God,

According to Your

lovingkindness;

According to the multitude of

Your tender mercies,

Blot out my transgressions.

Wash me thoroughly from my

Iniquity,

And cleanse me from my sin.

For I acknowledge my

Transgressions,

And my sin is always before

Me.

How well do you know the Bible?

In Malachi we are instructed to tithe. We are given promises of what will happen if we do, and what will happen if we do not?

What are the promises?

Mal ..3:8-10
