The Bible talks of the greatest gift that a person can have. Now what do you suppose it is? The gift of prophecy? The gift of speech like Billy Graham whereby millions of people find Jesus? What about great philanthropists who give millions and even billions to the poor and needy?

Nope all of those things are nice, but the greatest gift is love. Paul teaches that even if you have wonderful and powerful gifts, but not have love, you are NOTHING! Jesus repeatedly spoke of the need for us to have love for one another. I find myself falling short in this area more often than I care to admit. How about you? I am reminded of Mother Teresa who was asked how she could hold lepers in her arms and comfort them. She was askedhow she could live with the poorest of the poor and deal with the abject poverty, disease and depravity of themost hopeless of the hopeless people on the face of the earth. She said that when she looked into their faces she saw the face of Jesus and was overcome by love. She saw through the clay bodies ravaged by sickness and starvation and saw the wonderful face of Jesus Christ. We should all give that a try when we are tempted to dislike, hate, or otherwise depart from loving others. Like the song says: “All we need is love”. The world would be so much better if we would only listen to our Father and then act on what He tells us to do.

And thoughI have the gift of
prophecy and understand all
mysteries and all knowledge and though
I have all faith, so that I could
remove mountains, but have not love,
I am nothing…
